Where: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
When: September 3-4th 2011
What: The answer to countless people suggesting a meet in the fairest province's capital over the past couple of years. Toronto is big, diverse, affordable, and pretty easy to get to and get around. It also has the greatest concentration of Newgrounds Tanky awards out of any city, so that's uh, gotta be worth something here. It also has the highest concentration of newgrounds users, aside from montreal.
To get the ball rolling in advance, here are some of the possible destinations and timekillers we could throw our rolls of quarters at.
Huge rides, lots to do, and the date of the meet should grant us weather that's warm enough that no one will lose any fingers, as well as enjoy the waterpark as well. It's a little far out and a touch pricy, but definitely one to consider, esp concerning the new Behemoth rollercoaster and Windseeker ride recently added to the park.
Kind of the quintessential Toronto tourist thing to do. Not a lot of bang for your buck, but someone might want to spearhead a group who wants to go. I highly suggest going at NIGHT as you get to see the entire city lit up and it's quite a sight.
Bummin' around the city
This is bound to happen. It's effectively free, and people are bound to wander around at some point. Some points of interest are the harbourfront, the distillery district, Chinatown, Kensington Market (Little Third World), and the Eaton Centre area. There are also a billion places to eat, and natural sights to see! Last year we went on a toronto islands boat ride, which was pretty cool.
Like Wonderland, this one is a little further out, and one of the pricier options, but still a damn decent one. There are enough lanes to accommodate huge groups, they serve alcohol, and everyone loves bowling in the dark, right?
Yeah yeah I know a lot of you aint interested in this BUT they do have a kickass KARAOKE bar that we all very much enjoyed last year in which a few members were apprehensive, but they all came around, and karaoke IS a newgrounds tradition! Also there are tons of bars restaurants and clubs along this road.
an awesome place for venues - it's not cheap - but I've never been disappointed by their setup - great food too - last person I saw there was Andy Mckee - and I nearly crapped my pants when I got to meet him ^_^
The ultimate arcade facility! It`s literally the biggest arcade place you have ever seen! Situated the next seat over in mississauga (you just gotta hop on a bus and you`re there) - its the ultimate in entertainment! Also in that same area is the ÌMAX theatre - which basically are the biggest screens you have ever seen in your life - so we could do that too - as well as the Square one Mall as well for any general shopping
The World`s Biggest Bookstore
Yes that`s right - the biggest fucking bookstore you have ever been into in your life - if you want a book - 99% chance you will find it here - DEFINITELY a must see if you are coming to toronto!
TIFF Bell lightbox
A new venue for art attractions, movies, - it`s a bit of an arsy fartsy place but they tend to have exhibits running that are pretty kick ass.
The royal ontario museam - speaks for itself.
Yeah, also speaks for itself.
Other attractions and some mentioned in detail
Read and find out!
A goddamn bar
Suffice it to say that when the sun effs off for the night, every meet is going to culminate in a beverage house of some kind. Depending on the area we'll be in (which in turn depends on highest voted entertainment options for the day), I'll look into reserving space in some of the larger bars in Toronto. For those unaware, drinking age in Ontario is 19.
also randomly wandering down downtown at night - I highly recommend it. I must warn you though - public transportation closes down like around 1sh am in toronto - so don't get yourself stranded!
Any other Torontonians are welcome to toss in other ideas. We've got time to plan, yet. Everyone's responsible for their own sleeping arrangements. I can make recommendations upon request. From everyone else, thoughts on the current ideas are appreciated.
As is tradition we will be staying at the Novotel - it is EXACTLY right beside Union Station, which if you are out of town, is how you will be getting into toronto :) - it`s got a pool, and I think they provide breakfast as well. Only thing that sucks is you need your card in order to use the elevators - so be careful!
So who's in? D:
planning fell to me this year as negativeOne can't make it this year.
