And the answer is most certainly no.
However, although I was pretty pissed at the original announcement, I will now reserve judgement until I know what new developer 343 industries is capable of.

It's a cash cow, there are many fans of the series and Microsoft will pull a Cowadooty on it. Also, there are three more Halo games planned for the series.

I have to agree, who knows it might be good

They really are trying to squeeze out every dollar aren't they?

When you have a popular franchise you always try to keep it going.

Seeing as some Bungie members are within 343 Industries it will certainly be interesting. My only qualm with this is Halo 3 ended the story quite well and put Master Chief to sleep, so what is next for Master Chief to do?
With the amount of people qued up for it and keen as yes, yes it is necessary to extract what money the developers can. Besides, it might even be a good game/games. Pretty likely, you can't stuff up Halo.

I think it will be hard to be as bad as Reach was. And they said they are trying to keep it more of a classic halo fell... Sooo... Halo 2 online was good, why can't this.

I'll give people credit for not liking Halo 3: ODST (even though I liked it, I guess my opinion is shit), but hating on Reach just seems bandwagon riding to me.

*Feel.
Anyway, I actually liked Reach. Sure, it wasn't the best, but I did like it. I think that a Halo 4, though unnecessary, could be pretty good. 343 IS Microsoft's halo division, and they worked on creating Reach, and have many of the bungie employees who worked on the first 3 Halos.
I'll at least RENT Halo 4, and if I like it, I'll go ahead and buy it.

I loved Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. I don't see why everyone hates them, they're not the best shooters that I've ever played but they were polished and very excellent games.
Don't jump on a bandwagon and hate something just because it's popular, I'm fairly certain that Halo 4 will be up to the standards of the first three games. I'm looking forward to it.

I agree with this, I mean, I can see where some people who are just hardcore Master Chief fans would dislike ODST or Reach, but if you look past the fact they aren't Chief based, then they are pretty good games. I own the whole series (minus Halo wars, never played it, but, meh...) and I enjoy them all.
Those who try to act cool by hopping on the hate wagon are the least cool. :/

I agree. I didn't like ODST as I thought it was incredibly boring, but Reach was a good game that was actually something fans wanted to see. I don't see why people don't like it, especially since it trumps Halo 3, in my opinion. I suppose another factor would be that I focus on the story mode and not the multiplayer and don't have online, but I can't be sure of that.

It doesn't really bother me if there's a new one or not, as I'm not a fan of the games. However you can't expect a company who have one of the most popular gaming franchises to just cut off said franchise when there is obviously still a lot more money left to be gained from it.
It sucks you cant dislike a game without being blamed for riding the wagon. I LOVED 1-3, odst had firefight, which was fun. Then reach just, idk, lost the winning formula that 3 had. I never liked the idea of armor abilities sense they announced it. Ive spent so many weeks playing 3, i just wish 4 would go back to what made the first three good.

I just want to see where the story goes tbh.
Halo 4 is somewhat unnecessary, but Halo 3 does end in a cliffhanger (unfortunately). However, it might be good if you can take into account that most of 343 have worked on past halo's.
I can understand the hatred toward ODST, but I honestly enjoyed the firefight mode (and the fact that I got it for $20).
Now Reach...Oh I remember the day when it first came out. About 1/2 of the gen chem class was missing (250 people to be exact) just to play that game and my professor ended the class in 45 minutes. To me, it's a very fun game. There's just so much to do.
Then Black Ops came out and that was popular for about a week and a half. We then went back to Reach. Gotta love dat forge world.

Absolutely not. The franchise has done more than its share to contribute to the growing pile of mainstream garbage. Combat Evolved was good, 2 was okay, and three made me throw out everything.

Put yourself in Microsoft's shoes for a moment. In that position, would you end Halo for good? Honestly what else do they have? You may as well discontinue the Xbox at the same time. Gears of War isn't going to sell Xboxs on it's own.

I never liked 3 all that much to be honest. It just felt nerfed compared to the first and second ones. In fact the only thing I liked about 3 was Forge Mode. I had tons of fun with the Reach beta, and liked the armor abilities -- really made you choose which one was better for which situation. I've also played the demo and liked it too. If anything I want 4 to go back to Combat Evolved.

Well I just see a lot of hate for Halo: Reach and people can't seem to say why they don't like it. Now as for the Armor Abilities some are pretty cool, but the Active Camo one is just cheap, turning invisible, alright, fucking up the radar, bullshit.
I'm not going against people who dislike it, you can still dislike a game and it be great. My favorite Halo is still Halo 2 & 3. Halo: Reach is certainly an awesome entry in the Halo series and as a prequel it does a good job.
I'm just tired of those who just say the game sucks and only hate it due to small nitpicking points or just flat out trolling.

Are sequels ever really necessary in this day and age?
Looking forward to: Arkham City, Dead Island, Rage Game
There is a remarkable amount of lore, and if they aren't gonna make a movie then they kinda have to continue the game series. I'm excited to see what will hopefully be the final trilogy.

Yah, they need less promotion then new games, everyone knows if they like it or not, and they're a safe bet.

I seriously doubt that Microsoft has the indecency(spelling) to release a new Halo every year.

That was a great post. Right Zach?
Yup, Modern FPS's in the past few years have fallen into this trap of regurgitating the same game year after year when they don't need to eg. COD, Battlefield (Since Bad Company 1), Halo (since ODST)
I think that if they release games too often, the games aren't that special because there will just be another clone the next year.

And most of them will be forgotten. If you grew up during the 90's you knew of the Platformer and Fighting game craze. There were a lot of Sonic, Mario, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat knock offs and a lot of them just faded away into obscurity.
Gotta love dat forge world.
MEH!!, have you heard of Farcry 2, the Map editor kicks forges ass to space, forge is harder to use then Farcry 2's editor, and in the Farcry 2's editor you can raise and lower the terain, and you can start from a giant piece of flat land, for you to mold to your liking, and add houses, sniping spots, and nature,........... other then that, all forge has going for it is co-op editing, and bieng in space.............. can't wait till Farcry 3!!!!, Well Halo was a good franchise, but,....................................
................................. Well, it was good...... lol thats all folks

The whole Halo series is over-rated. The only truly good one was Halo 1 & 2. It's a real shame too. It just seems that after Halo 3, Bungie just didn't give 2 shits about story. Even ODST had a crappy story.
