3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsI' ve recently been thinking of ideas for this awesome MMORPG in my head. The more I thought about it, the more some of my ideas seemed to remind me of playing a 3D version Castle Crasher's Game on steroids. I've been thinking about ways to get my idea out, and I figure if I could tell some people about the idea and discuss it here, that'd be great. My ideas are not all put together yet, but I have alot of idea's that I think would make it great. I figured if we could start with a flash version of the MMORPG idea to see if it's successful. I'll tell you my MMORPG idea first.
It's a game based on the elements, your character is infused with a pure element. I have 12 different "elemental" ideas, I can't remember them all now, the things I have saved about it are on my friend's computer. Some of them I remember are: Fire, Water, Ice, Lightning, A "Soul" element, A Demon, Earth, and the Pure Elemental (Element infused with all elements, has a couple skills from each element.) I can't remember the others, I'll update it later when I can find out. It would have no level-cap at all, (after alot of testing with beta and such, max level might be 100.) You would have an Immortal/"Elemortal" bonus for surviving, a bonus that goes up really slow, a percentage meter that raises, increases exp by that percentage. Equipment could have it's own levels. Weapons have their own exp gain, giving you possibly new abilities, attack ups, increase in weapon range, elemental tracer behing swings. Weapon Exp goes up per kill for enemies within 10 levels of you. Armor goes up based on damage taken, into an exp pool for all equipment. Each possibly giving cool different abilities. The battle system would be real time, you could charge regular attacks. For special abilities you have an over-drive guage which goes up slowly, mainly used for bosses, if a healer healed, using an over drive heal, it'd fully heal them, and if they were in a party, it'd fully heal their whole party. A fire element might get a giant fire sword for one attack that does decent damage, if you used over drive, you might weild the weapon for so many attacks. Armor would be well detailed, fast paced action, jumping and attacking.
There would be a decoration equipment screen, which would only affect how your character looked, no stat benefits. So you could wear the armor you need for stats and armor, but have you character appear as you wanted them to, to everybody.
Dying affects your Immortal/"Elemortal" survival bonus, (0%-10% loses 1% per kill, 10%-20% loses 2% per kill, 20%-30% loses 3% per kill, etc.). Bonus goes up by killing enemies within possibly adjustable level ranges, based on level range.
Possibly after long beta testing, raise level cap (possibly remove), adding new areas. Hitting level 100 would lock your charater's exp, and survival bonus to be saved and unlocked again when level cap is raised. Possibly allowing you to sub an element, Get some of it's techniques, half elemental damage from original elements for the skills, but allowing new training areas. Pure elementals couldn't sub another element, just unlock a couple new skills from other elements.
Skills that hit max level have a chance of over-driving automatically without depleting guage, maybe a 1% or less chance of being automatic.
Enemies might have a 1% chance to respawn as a stronger version of itself, 10 second animation giving you time to GTFO if he might be too strong. You get exp but no drops until you kill the respawn version. Ones that don't respawn still drop normally. Bosses could even respawn, unlocking a 1% chance for a really good weapon.
Dimensional gates could open maybe in random spots near enemies, with only respawn mobs in it, you get bonuses based on the percentage of respawn monsters killed. Exp,items, equipment exp.
I was thinking this could tie into Castle Crashers in the way that, the last enemy in castle crashers could steal that crystal, breaking it, forcing several knights training under elements react to the crystal breaking, making their elemental powers unstable and making them change and them become stronger. Several enemies release from dimensional gates populating the world with monsters.
Place questions here if you're curious about this idea and like how it sounds. If possible, release it for Xbox 360 or PS3. With Xbox, game could be released with game pre-installed on the harddrive, a controller with a built in keyboard and mic jack.
Just basic ideas of getting it out there, I mean still try a single player flash version first to test out it's popularity. Anyways, if you're interested, curious, have questions, message me, maybe this game can happen if the right people are talked to.
Well nobody has responded to this yet, just figured I'd say, there's alot more I'd like to discuss with this game. Classes are one thing I haven't even touched on in my last post.
I wanted to make classes changable, so you're not bound to one specific class, only changable inside town. Unlocking a certain class might lock another class. I haven't gotten a complete idea for classes that's why I haven't said anything about them, hoping people would be willing to talk about it, and get their ideas out there to help me expand on my ideas.
Because it's not tainting it. Also whatever your name is who said it's a terrible idea, that's your opinion, doesn't mean everybody feels the same. If you don't agree with it, don't post, problem solved and you don't have to worry about the terrible idea eh? Also, if you think the idea is terrible, help me make the idea better, and don't pull some smart ass obvious remark like making it better by destroying it. It's not like it has to be done with Castle Crashers, I just found a simple way how it could tie into it and possibly give me a starting ground for a place to put my ideas out there.
Or, better idea Travis, quit posting off topic and leave yourself. I'm willing to take the criticism and bad attitudes, apparently you aren't willing to take mine, so maybe you should just leave. =) Problem solved, once again.
Yeah..you could also take note of the fact where I said if you think it's a terrible idea, help me improve upon it, or are you just gonna admit that for the sake of trolling yourself? I have no intention of being a troll. But you also don't have to be in here with negative comments and waste your own time if you don't like the idea. If you're willing to help me make it better, take away things add things, expand it instead of being ignorant and saying no it'll never work, bad idea, just give up. Be less annoying and help me make it work, if you don't want to, cool, don't bother posting here anymore, seems as though your only reason to be here anymore is try annoying me. I'm still because I started the thread.
Dude, I don't bash you for having a goal in life do I? There's some thing about the game that I haven't even mentioned yet, enough to deeply seperate it from WoW, and why bother comparing it to WoW? Because they're both MMORPGs? Doesn't mean I'm going for the same feel or same style. Being helpful and "Removing" the Castle Crasher's part from it, isn't much help. As I said before, it was just an idea I got, giving me a possible place to start with getting the idea out there. I loved Castle Crasher's, thought it was an amazing game. If you saw the same game that I have in my head that I do, you might like it too, maybe you don't even like MMOs, how do I know you're not just bashing the idea purely based off that? Look dude, I'm just asking if you don't have anything to contribute, then don't post here. Alls your basically saying is give up, which is something I don't want to do. So I'm respectfully just asking you to ignore this idea and move past it if it doesn't matter to you. The other guy thought the idea was terrible enough so he just left and quit posting here, is it that hard for you to do the same?
As I said, you're doing nothing to contribute and help me, so don't worry about it, move on past this if you don't like it and it doesn't matter to you. Or can you not see how that makes sense?
Ok, I have thought alot more of the ideas for the game, tried finding ways to balance out some more of the elements and other ideas I've considered adding. I need people who are serious and willing to help me make a flash game first, maybe even an indie game on Xbox360. The game doesn't have to revolve around Castle Crashers, I just figured it'd be a cool idea if Tom Fulp liked it, to give me a good starting point. I know this game would be successful and I know it would do well. I just need a good starting ground such as making an indie for flash game to help fund the bigger project I have in store. I haven't thought out many of the ideas of how the flash game would be, mostly just the MMORPG itself. But I figure through working out ideas of the full game, I could just subtract a few features to make the game a little more compact and single player for the first game. Anyone willing to contact me about this idea, I would greatly appreciate it. I have alot of good ideas surrounding this game, I just need people who can program and design. Also I would like to state that I have no real programming experience, but I am learning, if even someone here would be so willing as to help me learn programming, (I'd learn better with a teacher than on my own) to help me get my dream started, it would be appreciated.
I couldn't see anywhere to edit posts, but I did forget to mention a couple things. The survival bonus idea has been slightly changed to reflect how players would feel about losing large chunks of their survival bonus that would significantly lower the rate at which experience is gained. I would love sharing my ideas with you, but it doesn't seem worth sharing if no-one is willing to really post and give my idea a fighting chance.
Alls I'm asking is for people to ask me questions about the game dynamics, how it would play and I will explain in full detail, if people show interest I will start sharing more of the idea. I'm also starting to realize that maybe I made a mistake with the topic name.
I just want it to be very clear, so I'll be saying the for the thousandth time. The idea was originally based around Castle Crashers, it was a game based around the elements. I just saw that maybe there was more of a story that could be told with castle crashers, a game I liked very much, and it would basically be CC on Steroid based DMT.
I like how despite everyone pointing out how terrible your idea is, you still believe that it's good. Slapping MMORPG onto an indie beat em' up title isn't going to improve the game, if anything it will ruin it.
Terrible idea. Castle Crashers is great as it is. Making an MMORPG would ruin it.
the reason it's a bad idea is because Castle Crashers was designed as a homage to an old genre of video games that we don't really see much of nowadays. MMORPGs are a rather modern genre of game and the market is already saturated with lots of them.
so, no.
You are not going to program an MMORPG.
Does this make any sense to you?
If it does, I'm going to tell you one thing: that's OpenGL. To program for consoles, there are some much harder to use API's.
To prove you know what you're doing, answer a few question:
What OS will the server run on and why?
What networking API (if any) will you use and why?
What other networking API's have you considered and why are you not using them?
Are you aware that the PS3 and XBox 360 have hardly any frameworks in common, and that you'll practically have to write 2 engines?

I would drop castle crashers first of all. You said it was 3d which already kind of ruined the cartoony fun of castle crashers. I know you said it was just based off it in a later post but castle crashers is hardly the first game with elements in it. As of right now thats all i can see that relates to it. An mmorpg is a shit load of work. You arent going to find someone to make this for you because u don't bring anything to the table right now.
What i wouldnt mind however would be castle crashers with more then 4 players on the screen. Epic battles with like 16 different people or more would be great for the beat em up style. Thats the image that came to my head when u said mmorpg.

Something told me it would be a bad idea to post this idea here considering most of you people deal with nothing but flash games. I'm aware it's alot of work and that it'd be extremely hard, doesn't mean I'd give up on a dream because I'm not a jackass. I read through all the posts and only one person actually took note of the fact that basing it around Castle Crashers was just a last minute idea that I thought was cool, but didn't even need to be related to the game.
So to most of you people who say it can't be done, go blow yourselfs because honestly I doubt you're really even considering what the game would be like, you're probably just being narrow-minded and idiotic and bashing it because you don't want anything that could harm your view of Castle Crashers.
Obviously Castle Crashers wasn't the first game based off the elements, but I loved Castle Crashers and do know this game could work. You honestly think I wanted to mention something about how this could tie into Pokemon? Yes I'm aware making an MMORPG would be extremely, for the person who questioned my knowledge of programming, yeah I'm pretty sure I made it obvious I don't know much about programming, did you atleast read where I said that and mentioned that I'd like to find some sort of help with people who could teach me how to program? Apparently not.
Honestly do any of you really think I'm going to listen to people from newgrounds about the idea being bad? As if there isn't a fuck ton of horrible games on this website that people say they love.
I have something I'm willing to work towards, so again, if you don't like the idea, leave, don't post here. I'm looking for people who are willing to work with me. Thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of you are bashing it simply because other people are, not an uncommon thing for people to do.
Point is, I'm going to try to continue learning how to program and seeing if I can get my game off the ground, everybody has a dream, maybe I'm the only one whose not pussy enough to abandon something I genuinely care about because there's a bunch of grade A dumbasses who probably don't even like MMORPG.
Someone needs some preparation H
Excuse me, I'm looking for a car that's been tricked out to look like an ice cream truck.
