Treason?

Hey all,

I'm wondering, if I was to make a game where you are to kill the president or more specifically over throw the government, would this qualify as treason? Could i get in any kind of trouble for this? And I don't mean catching a bunch of shit from pissed off people, I mean, can there be legal repercussions from that?

Everything I've read seems like it might just apply to old times. Like if I made a cartoon in like 1800 about the same thing, i'd probably be killed, but we have the right to free speech.

I'm not sure on this one. It's got me thinkin....watchu guys think?

To be serious, it is not. We have free speech in this country. Now keep in mind free speech doesn't mean you can say whatever the fuck you want, like some people think. It means you can speak out against the government and voice your beliefs and not be stopped by the law. The only times speech is lawfully blocked is when it presents a clear and present danger.

What you are talking about is 100% fine, unless you test out the game by trying it in real life.

Here is how the U.S. Constitution defines treason:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

It appears that your hypothetical game does not fit this definition, so you should be fine.
