It's pathetic. Are you seriously thinking that this helps sell? You think it stands out amongst all the over game covers? You think someone would look at this and think "Gee, this looks interesting"?
I know this isn't the only example of horrible American boxart, but are we really so retarded that we have to put an overuse of orange and blue, the main character holding some weapon (Or item), floating heads, an enemy, a pair of boobs, and blur filters on every single fucking game cover that comes to our shores? We can't have any sort of minimalist approach, OR make an attempt at capturing the feel of the game, we just HAVE to make everything a clusterfuck?
inb4 america fuck yeah, stupid fat americunts
I agree, the box art isn't that great, but the fat americunt comment was rather uncalled for.

If you say you've seen it all, you're about to see something new.....Probably.
I've noticed that NTSC covers are really ugly in comparison to European and Japanese covers...

That's not a terrible cover... and that game is awesome
I remember growing up and playing Silent Hill, the game scared the shit out of me and the box art cover looked intriguing as well. However when I saw the cover for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories I busted out laughing wondering if I was supposed to take it seriously or not.

We all know that, but still when making a cover you want it to catch someone's eye and get itself out there to show what you can expect in the game.
I think what Blaze is trying to say (and if I'm wrong I don't doubt I'll be corrected) is that he doesn't like the laziness put into the covers for otherwise good to great games.
I agree, that cover is pretty ugly.
This is a very American game, but I think the cover is amazing. The game was shit, but the cover honestly made me want it more.
Whoa, you are right. The alternate cover is way better!

I can't stop laughing.
More along the lines of this gen has some good covers but a lot of shitty covers last gen went all out on the packaging now everyones skimping on the manual even the boxes on xbox enviro boxes suck xD
But also boxart is different for regions like US boxart is made to intrigue us people same for euro & asia so it depends on your taste do you like asia style or euro or us.
I kind of miss the paintings that used to be used on game box art. They sure were classy looking.
Doesn't bother me, covers aren't a selling point for me the games themselves are. Honestly I would be content with black covers that only contained the title. I don't think a lot of effort should go into boxart honestly, I don't buy the game for the sweet picture(or lack of one) on the cover I buy it for the game itself.

But this may not be the case for a lot of people. In this case, I'm sure a lot of people will not bother picking up Amnesia, a great game, because of the shitty boxart.

No I know that, I was going to add a "but that's just me" but I figured it was already known that that was a personal opinion.
But it is sad that people rely on "flashy" cover art to get them to buy a game. I don't buy a car because the price tag is fancy, I buy it cause it's a good car.
I really have to stop referencing cars when I'm talking about video games.

I don't think it's about getting them to buy the game, it's about luring them over to check the game out.
I know I have looked at a book/movie/car and said this looks interesting just from the cover. It enticed me to check out more of that item.

While some of that is true, like idiot said "I'm sure a lot of people will not bother picking up Amnesia, a great game, because of the shitty boxart." and this is a sad but true statement.
Some of you honestly think that was a good cover? It's a fucking insult to Amnesia. You probably also think the CoD/Halo/Battlefield method of just a soldier standing there, doing nothing is a good cover too.
In other news, Wasteland.

That cover looks really familiar bit it's not a game that I own.
I know you shouldn't really base an opinion of a game based on the box art, but when I see one that looks really cheap and nasty it makes me instantly think that the game was made on a tight budget and will probably be quite poor as a result.
I like simplistic covers a lot. I probably mention Oblivion way too much, but I really liked the box art it has.

The precursor of the Fallout series. Not really, but kind of. Like Marathon - Halo, Wasteland - Fallout.

That reminds me.
Am I the only one who loved the original style of Call Of Duty box art? You know, the sergeant screaming and pointing at you while there's a big battle going on? It was way better than just having some guy standing around or walking.
Also, enjoy this gem.
Can't decide which one of these I like more D:
To be fair, Europe doesn't ALWAYS get the best art.

I actually think the American cover fits RE4 better. RE4 is a cheesy third person shooter that parodies 80's movies featuring zombies. And it's not scary, at all. So the European cover, while badass, doesn't fit.
