The criminal, since he himself accept his penalty and understands the reasons why he is given death. Although death penalty is wrong in the sense that it's a easy way out. Cheaper to I can guess.

I'm not a big fan of the death penalty but I suppose I have no moral qualms or issues with it, what he did was fucking twisted I guess.

Too bad he wasn't a drug cartel lord though. Those fucking monsters need to all die.

This is a typical Orwellian style execution, where the criminal apologizes (actually feels sorry) before being executed.

True criminals never apologize, even when found guilty.

And hey, executing foreigners happens a lot around the word. But at least neither country wanted to save him.

If there is solid proof (or you admit) to raping and murdering someone, I dont care how sorry you are, you deserve to die.

although I am not defending the Rapist, I am however against the death penalty.

If we kill we are no different from them. We are just as capable of evil as they are, and the all "justice" we create is just as flawed and incomplete as we are. Just as "justice is blind" to subjective feelings, we are blind to true absolute justice because we are blind to truth in it's purest form.

It shouldn't matter what kind of legality the person is, and it irritates me that the President believes he needs to talk to some Mexican officials just because his nationality is there.

He raped and killed a teenager in Texas, so logically speaking, he needs to be held in that state. Same should apply to any state in the United States of America.

If a US citizen were to commit a serious felony in Russia for example, then Russia has every right to proceed to their legal policies.

That's my opinion though.

Taking photographs is a little more obscure than a rape-murder.

But yeah, convicting a tourist of spying is really the way to go if you want to send the right message about cooperation on a global scale.

After all, where can you rape-murder and get away with it? The Savannahs of Somalia?

And executing other countries citizens, no matter the case, is any better?

there's a big difference between unintentionally crossing a border and rape/murder.

It still does not change the fact that the hikers committed a crime in their country. It sucks, but if the hikers were to break a law in another country no matter how obscure it may be, then it's another ball game.

However, there are exceptions like if our country were to make an agreement with another government to have our country's citizens to take "photographs" for example, and then suddenly get arrested for just taking photographs without committing another sort of crime around it.

Other than that though, if you are in another country then you have to follow their rules.

The crime was being an American. Tough spot to be in, no? Your point is "they shouldn't have even been there", which is true, don't get me wrong.

Trespassing is a serious offense. Trespassing, then adding rape-murder is a more serious offense, correct? Do you think Americans would be as willing to defend the hikers had they committed a heinous act? No, so they exists a relevancy here you're choosing to ignore.

Any better than isolating your country? I dunno, is North Korea better than Finland?

Might as well be the stone age for some of the animals walking the earth today. Executing a few of the worst of them isn't going to change the world anything but for the better.

I wish Illinois DID have the death penalty, because there are some major criminals who did horrible things, and I think they should've gotten the death penalty.
