WOW. This News publication is due to shut down after Sunday's print due to allegations of phone hacking that may have lead to criminal inquiries being subverted. Basically, the journalists are accused of breaking into and deleting voicemail messages on (amongst other things) missing persons, who later turned out to be dead, etcetera.

I know that it's not a big international deal or anything and I know that the majority of people here won't be interested in it, but this is a pretty huge deal for the press over here.

I read about that on BBC news as well. Even though I certainly don't think it's ethical, At first I could at least see why they may want to hack the celebrities' phones, just for the gossip....but as for hacking the phones in ongoing police investigations, well they deserve to be charged as accessories in said crimes. They've made a mess of the jobs of the police. I read one example where they were sending texts from a young girl's cell phone, allowing her parents to think she was still alive. There's just no excuse and as others have said--those who can be proven responsible deserve a swift kick to their genitalia.

Beyond the articles I read on here, I don't know as much about the situation. Is it possible for just the offenders to be eliminated and keep the paper? Is this particular paper the most popular one where you live? I know you said it's quite possibly the oldest.

I have family in/from England and we haven't discussed this yet. I found something to bring up with them tomorrow.

I guess they didn't get the footage of that stuff to the editing suite in time, hehe.
