I used to pre-order everything I bought, but I've stopped because there is really no need.
Though for the last two games I've bought (on launch day) the store always makes sure to tell me that I have just bought the last copy, just as a ton of excited young kids start to come in just to be disapointed.
So yeah, is pre-ordering worth it to anyone?

I don't preorder. The last time I did was for Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts (yeah I know, bite me) so I could get the original Banjo-Kazooie for free. But preordering is silly unless you want to get it at a place where'd it get sold out quickly. I shop my games at K-Mart.
No one goes to K-Mart.
Lately I haven't really been pre-ordering. I bought Black Ops from Wal-Mart the moment it came out and got a cool bandana as a gift, probably more than what I would have gotten at Gamestop.
Though Gamestop usually has some small pre-order bonuses, I usually onlt did it for special editions, but since special editions are always plentiful after a while I just buy regular editions and wait for price drops.
Through Steam it's pretty nice because their new games are already 10 dollars cheaper than retail, and they do 10% off before release. It feels good, man.
I don't usually pre-order games unless i know for a fact that i am gunna get it the first day that it comes out. Also, bonus content/other lame things that come with pre-ordering are always nice.
I always preorder for games I'm interested in. Its pretty exciting to receive a game you've been waiting for, for ages on your doorstep. More convenient too.

I don't bother because there is no way in hell that it will be sold out and we rarely get preorder bonuses here, and when we do they just give out any spare bonuses to the day 1 buyers (and there is always spares).

I only pre-order if it something I'm going to get on the spot and they are giving away something really cool. Like Motorstorm and how they gave away the cars.

I have about 5 games preordered, and about 2 of those have been paid, but since I heard about a limited edition of Mass Effect 3 I imediately changed my order, but now I have to pay more.

Why? The first week is when the game is most expensive, paying full price for a game that will after a while drop to a 1/2 or a 1/3 of its original cost should grant you bonuses. If anything the pre-order bonuses should have more impact then just "hey more cosmetics!"

i preorder sometimes, but only on steam, so i can preload :D
Last time I pre-ordered a game was in December of 08, and that was just to make sure they didn't run out.
I've never preordered a game before. I was considering it for MW3, but that's probably the only game I'd even bother with preordering.
That being said, I didn't preorder Black Ops when it came out and still managed to buy a copy on the day of its release without incident, so I don't think it's absolutely necessary. Probably depends on where you live though.
I remember when I was pre-ordering games that I was dying to get my hands on. I waited in anticipation, counting down every minute until the game was released. That was then when games were worth the wait. Games these days just have not given me much reason to. I have not been compelled to pre-order anything that will still be there the next day.
While I so do enjoy pre-order bonues, I at the same time wish for them to be done away with. The pre-order bonus can be good, can be something that gives you an advantage, or just something highly unnecessary. In any case, given time those "exclusive" pre-order items are released to the rest.
Pre-ordering, no.
THIS WORLD IS MADE OF LOVE AND PEACE!
I don't usually unless it's for a game that I know I will buy on launch day anyway and if pre-ordering it gets me something free. Usually things like bonus content. Otherwise I don't bother.
Only when I see that there's something for free that comes with is.
.
I don't like pre-ordering. A couple of reasons.
1) I don't like this recent trend of getting extra content for pre-ordering games, especially when the content is different depending on which store you pre-order from. I dislike this practice entirely and want it's course to run out.
2) Too many games lately haven't been worth it. There are some games worth full price but some of theses games aren't worth even $10. I've been burned to many times in the past when pre-ordering a game only to find out I couldn't stand it.
I pre-order nearly all the time. Steam usually gives discounts, and of course, there is the added bonuses, etc.

I don't pre-order....but it is worth it? What's the pros and cons of pre-ordering though?
thanks for answering my query in advance.
The only reason I would preorder in a store would be for a bonus or if I thought it was going to sell out. I always preorder on the internet though, there's a chance you get it a day before it's official release and that's always great.

I agree and disagree. I like getting free stuff just to preorder a game that I would buy on release date anyway. But I do hate when they offer different things for different stores. I don't think it should be allowed. If there is bonus content then it should be the same for all stores. They should stick to trying to beat the competition the traditional way with lower prices, not through different content that one can buy on the gam anyway.
The only game that I plan to actually re-order is Diablo III.

Depends on the game and your area. I would assume in smaller towns people pre-order but in more larger cities you have a ton of options. Personally I have started pre-ordering as it works for me, and the games i'm pre-ordering are in large demand (ex: Rage, BF3, AC Revelations). This all aside from the pre-order dlc of course.
I think since I bought my Xbox, the only games that I've pre-ordered have been Two Worlds and Darksiders. I did have Mafia II on pre-order, but I was told that it wasn't as good as I'd be expecting, so cancelled it. Played it at a later date though and it was damn good.
I will probably be pre-ordering Skyrim and Battlefield 3 if I have the money to spare at that time. The only reason that I pre-order them is so that I'm hopefully guaranteed a copy of the good games on release day. It also saves me standing in huge queues in town. I went to a midnight launch for Black Ops and I wont be doing that for any other games. More hassle than it was worth.

Shit, I just remembered I preordered Gears of War 3 Limited Edition, but I still need money for it! Well, at least there's a lot of time to raise some money.
Also I pretty much preorder any game I really like, but not if I won't get the limited usually. I preordered Halo: Reach, Fallout New Vegas, and Gears of War 3. I just started to preorder last year.
I sometimes pre-order games depending on how much I want them.
For example, Just Cause 2 was the first game I pre-ordered, after playing the first one I just couldn't wait to play it. The same with New Vegas after playing Fallout 3, though that was quite disappointing.
I'm going to be pre-ordering the Collector's Edition of Skyrim, however, it just needs to be done.
I pre-ordered Rock Band 3 from HMV, got the 3 song pre-order bonus via e-mail the day before it's release then I cancelled my order, then picked the game up from Tesco for cheaper. Win-win.

Depends on the bonuses. I got inFamous 2's hero edition with my psych research money and I enjoyed it.
I think that and Skyrim will be the only games I'll pre-order this year. Skyrim because I loved Oblivion, better animations, better gameplay, and no fucking leveling system. You get a cloth map for pre-ordering so I guess that's cool.

Im pretty sure I almost never pre order games. I just pre ordered battlefield 3 a couple weeks ago and I think that was the first game I have pre ordered since the Wind Waker because I wanted the master quest bonus.
I preorder most games these days and often pay them off in advance too. I just like knowing I'll have a copy waiting for me when it comes out. Preorder bonuses are also nice, but not top priority since they always come out as dlc a few months later
