3.93 / 5.00 4,634 Viewsso i was lucky enough to get a hold of Duke Nukem Forever, having to had played the original duke, i was very dissatisfied with this new Duke Nukem Forever, the graphics look like something we found in games back in the 1990's ok maybe not that far back but graphics just look outdated. is it me or what? game play however seems simple and fun and to the point, bloody, multilayer is fun as well, but what is up with the graphics? any of you agree with me?

It's mostly because they started work in 1997, but while in development they took their time, while they were doing that games were getting better and better and so they had to adopt new engines and new mechanics as time went by, hence why it took soooooo long to release the damn game and why the graphics are so old.
It should be good from all accounts for a game that took 10 years to make, but it's not so I say it's a massive failure.

It's HORRIBLE! It's like god took a dump on Duke, then reminded me the original wasn't that fun!
It's good. Not the be all, end all, of video games, but it's good. Play the demo. If you're moderately interested, then you won't be disappointed by the full game.
One simple fact is they updated to the unreal engine this game was built around the quake engine the game is okay for a duke game/90's game compared to modern it doesn't hold up to well & compared to DN3D it's nowhere near as good.
Seems like tons of people hate it, from critics to fans. Mainly the more hardcore Duke fans, the ones that played Duke 3D and were disappointed with the "modernization" of Duke... among other things.
I found it mediocre. Not the Messiah of games or pure bad, just... meh. There's no charm to it. It feels rushed (and probably was) and just doesn't fit in with the modern shooters of today nor does it parody it in a funny manner. It's Duke, it's there if you want it.
If you're expecting Duke Nukem 3D all over again, don't. It's not that. It is, however, an FPS game that still has generally good graphics, even if they're not the best out there and may feel a tinge bit on the dated side. The attitude is still there, the cheesy humor is still there, the gore and the blood is definitely there, and occasional moment of sex appeal is there also. Most of the weapons are new, it isn't the keycard gathering game the original Duke Nukem 3D was, and it is more on the linear side now. The AI is definitely tougher, the enemies are faster, smarter, and hit harder than DN3D, and there are now a few driving levels added into the mix.
In all, its a decent game, but it's definitely Duke Nukem with a whole new feel. If you're open to changes but still want to see Duke kicking ass, then you'll enjoy this. But if you're looking more for nostalgia, you're not going to find too much of it with this.

I liked it. If you are a Duke Nukem fan you'll like it.

I haven't played Duke, but it seems to me, if you haven't played the originals, you'll have a good chance of liking this game as you would another game.
It wasn't a complete disaster, but at the same time, it's not exactly the best of the best either.
The biggest reason why DNF got bad to average reviews from critics and gamers alike, is because it's was made with an outdated system and game mechanics, and Gearbox Studios had to work something around that with the system and mechanics that they have for DNF. The original developers {3D Realms} kept putting DNF in the back shelf for over a decade, and when they went under a few years ago, DNF was in serious limbo, until Gearbox picked up the rights to Duke Nukem.
As I have stated before in similar posts about DNF, I would put this in the Too Human category of games, where they had a 10+ years of development time or were in limbo for that much time, and it didn't turn out as planned when they finally released it. Both aren't bad games per se, but for whatever reason, {lack of money/support, sub-par development team, or rushed deadline} they turned out to be disappointing in sales and in reviews.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

lol nope.
I wanted to try this one, been reading your comments dude and I hope I wouldn't be disappointed if I would decide to buy the full version. I played the free trial but I'm still wondering if the full version is a good one.
well, if you liked the DN3D's gameplay more than anything, I'd say stick it out for serious sam 3 and skip DNF. if you liked the humor and don't mind the call-of-duty style linearity then yeah, you'll enjoy it.
If you like FPS games then by all means get it, some love it others "hate it" even though its not actually bad at all, its just been vastly over rated and over hyped so obviously when it doesnt hit God level people think its shit, sigh.
It's a FPS, so its a FPS, what do you expect from it?

Graphics don't make a game good, it's gameplay; I don't know anyone who plays a old game because of graphics. But what I can tell is that they were going for the Fallout 3 formula of appealing-to-everyone-except--their-fans sorta thing; this formula seems popular for some reason.
So the only thing you didn't like was the graphics?

the same 20-ways-to-beat-a-level and you-have-to-actually-look-for-secrets they managed to make years ago but remade with, well, better graphics. considering how the last game looked they got at least one thing right.

This is after Call Of Duty, what do you expect? Sometimes I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and prevent Call Of Duty and Halo from ever being made...
There's actual boss fights in the game.
That shit is fucking rare in FPSs.
I played the demo and it was okay, not good, not bad, just okay. The bad part about it was it has given me a dissatisfaction for Duke Nukem 3D.
Graphics don't matter you shit, game play and story do.
GAME PLAY AND STORY.
Honestly, I don't find anything particularly terrible about it. The jokes in it aren't that funny (some are stolen), the graphics are a little outdated, but it can be kind of fun, all you do is kill aliens.

The problem is that this ISN'T the case. There's loads of time spent on boring driving sequences and shite platforming sections, or even just wandering around with no enemies to be seen.
Game is trash.
it was crap plain and simple though the ending was amusing.
Bad, very bad. It was a waste of money, and a waste of 12 years development.

Gotta admit that the design is outdated. It's been 11 years and people don't like it now? WTF? My rating for 1-UP: GAY.
I still like Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven!
i haven't played the game and i don't intend to buy it because i want to spend my money on other things. but i have read some reviews online about it, well i say read i just looked at the numbers. most reviews had low number so it's probably bad game
dont buy

That's a very ignorant statement. The original Halo's and Call of Duty's Revolutionized FPS', Consoles, and Multiplayer for the better. Now of course after that they just cashed in but that's a story for another time.
