I got both and they both have their own strenghts and weaknesses
Get Minecraft if you want a good 3d game with hours of entartainment
Get Terraria If You Want A Good Little Game That Costs 7/9£
Terraria has more items, monsters and biomes
In My Opinion, You Should Get Terraria Because its cheap and its awesome got my copy a few days ago :)
And If You get terraria you got minecraft too so if u dont like it then just get a refund (if u buy it off steam, not any other crappy Marketing Campaign)
Hope This Post Helps And I Hope U Get Terraria Because Its Loads Of Fun :)

Both Terraria and Minecraft are monumentally overhyped, even though neither games are finished yet.

Its good, but minecraft is more about survival and only survival. Terraria seems to be more about fighting bosses and is more "item heavy" and its 2d. Im not saying anything bad about minecraft, but terraria has spears and guns a flails and stuff. Not that it matters, its more of a matter of opinion really.

If you prefer 2D games Terraria is better for you, if you prefer 3D games minecraft is better for you.

Personally I prefer Terraria, due to the large number of items and ores. Minecraft: Wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond. Terraria: Wood. Stone, iron, silver, gold, hellstone, demonite and meteor. I think thats all of them anyhow :D

You can always add mods to Minecraft. There's actually quite a few Terraria mods that make the game almost exactly like Terraria.

I find adding the mods frustrating. God damned creeps and weirdos is epic, but I cant get it to work anymore :(

Minecraft and Terraria are both amazing. but I don't think they can directly be compared because
Terraria is more of an Adventure-Sandbox game, and
Minecraft is more of a Survival-Sandbox game.

What?

Then we can't compare any games.

NO IT ISN'T!

Honestly, you'd have to be a complete retard to get killed by anything, other than the occasional creeper. Once you build a house out of dirt blocks, and place a torch inside, you're 100% immune to everything hostile to you.

Terraria is much, MUCH more centered on survival, because there are a metric shit ton of things that actually have a good chance at killing you. Terraria has over 50 hostile mobs, with varying degrees of rarity. Minecraft has 8.

You could play something other than an unfinished game and a rip off of an unfinished game.

Are you trying to start a war?

I think someone said it perfectly when they said these types of games are like a whole new genre. It's like saying every shooter is a rip off of the other shooter and every RPG is a rip off of that other RPG.

And what's wrong with playing an unfinished game that is practically finished and extremely good for not being a finished game?

Different opinion =/= trolling

If games like minecraft can only keep it's replay value if you have to mod it to the shit then that says something about the game itself. Considering Notch has promised an 'adventure mode' and has failed to deliver is pretty disappointing. The game is also soon going to be ported to Xbox, implying that he has no plans to further update the game, unless you want to pay for updates through Xbox live.

I think someone said it perfectly when they said these types of games are like a whole new genre.

Problem with calling these games a genre is that you have to actually name it. What is this new genre called if it doesn't fit into the sandbox genre? Besides, Terraria IS minecraft, only difference is it has more mobs, npcs, and one less dimension. TAKE ALL MY MONEY.

And what's wrong with playing an unfinished game that is practically finished and extremely good for not being a finished game?

Nothing wrong with playing an unfinished game. That's called a beta.
There's a problem with the devs actually making you pay for an unfinished game. What's worse, they're taking their sweet ass time to finish it as well. Go on a holiday break after showing it off at E3? Really?

Ironic though, because Notch stated that there's nothing wrong with pirating PC games. So I pirated Minecraft, and I was thoroughly disappointed.
