Believe me now?

I for one, am excited for GTA V. I have played GTA IV more than any other game I have. Yes, GTA IV had a few bugs that Rockstar had to work out, and glitches were pretty common in the days after it's first release. I'm sure that GTA V will be the same way, but all free roam games are bound to have some problems, so long as Rockstar continuously updates and fixes them, then GTA V will be a great game.
I personally hope that they make the map more rural in some areas though, like they did with San Andreas. It does get kind of old driving through the city and having to deal with dumb-ass red lights with over 9000 cars stopped behind them. But even if they decide to make an all urban map like they did with GTA IV, I am still going to get it. No matter what Rockstar does, they always seem to make their games playable for hours on end.

GTAIV is worth playing. The gameplay mechanics are much more refined than in San Andreas.
Plus, GTAIV is only like $10 now.
Now let's just hope they don't shit the bed with the PC version this time around.

Heard bad things? wasn't it the most critically acclaimed game for that year?
What problems did it have? Epic story, amazing characters, best car damage I've ever fucking seen especially for a free roam, euphoria engine, and replay value up the ass. Whats not to like?

Bahamut is probably talking about the PC version of GTA IV. Just judging by other replies in this thread, the PC port was apparently really bad.
Awesome, this will be a good time. I haven't gotten around beating GTA4 yet but I'll probably finish it before the new one. I'll be getting it eventually I know that much.

Critically, yes, but not by normal users. It seemed to be a pretty polarizing game. There were plenty that thought it was great, but I'd say at least as many found it pretty disappointing.
Epic story, amazing characters,
I really don't understand why GTA4 got so much credit for it's story. Niko just kept killing the person he was working for and then moved onto the next guy. It was largely predictable, repetitive, and pretty derivative of the typical mob-story.

I hope you mean only in a free roam game. Doesn't hold a candle to any actual racing games. It isn;t too important either way though.
and replay value up the ass.
No it didn't. The story missions themselves were really repetitive, but everything to the side was even worse. Pretty fair amount of content, but almost none of it worth spending the time on.
GTA4 was a technical feat and realized a world like never before, but it fell flat from a gameplay perspective. The main story was pretty expected from a GTA game (although, more variety would have gone a long way), but the side stuff was just boring in order to be cohesive with the more realistic, serious approach.
Nevertheless, I trust Rockstar will do much better with GTA5. They've shown they can make a really great experience with Red Dead Redemption even while taking that serious approach. I would expect a lot of the successes from that game to be implemented into the next GTA. I'm personally fine with Rockstar taking the more serious approach. Saints Row and Just Cause can satisfy the open-world-do-what-you-want desire. Rockstar creates really amazing worlds, and I think that's better put to use in a more serious setting. Also would not be surprised if the report is true and it is shooting for a 2012 release.

Fuck no it doesn't. Checkpoints make everything boring. What's so fun about playing a shoot-out or a high speed chase while knowing that if you die it's not going to be harmful to you in any way? This why Red dead redemption was so goddamn boring, you are pretty much invincible. Why do people want to play shit like this?
Really... can we get out of liberty city I'm so tired of it, especially after how crap iv was.
If it's a numbered title it will take place in LC since every numbered title takes place there.
Locations I'd rather see:
Tokyo
London
Vice City(80's or 90's)
Personally i hope the next gta can bring back the fun to the series if it doesn't well at least we still have SR3.

Ugh, the GTA4 Realism argument. GTA4's writing is still pretty fucking funny and the game is still pretty unrealistic and fun to play in Free Roam (some of the funnest co-op moments I've ever had in a video game were fucking around in GTA4 free roam). San Andreas was fucking great but really it's the only completely over-the-top game in the series. GTA has ALWAYS been story driven, letting the player do completely ridiculous shit subtracts from the story experience.
Saints Row 1-2-3 are all doing what GTA should have done, which is keep everything that worked from previous titles while adding even more crazy shit to do. Things like dildo bats, or getting a car that has a civilian launching cannon on it, or elbow dropping hookers on street corners, etc...
Yeah, I mean SR3 looks pretty fucking fun. GTA5 will be really fucking fun too.
All of the unrealistic, cartoony stuff makes for a much more fun game than "Dark Gritty Realism" unless a game is trying to sell itself on story, which when I played GTAIV was constantly interrupted with annoying phone calls about going bowling, or taking some bitch on a date, all the shit I couldn't give a fuck about which just ruins the game for me. The story (up to what I played) wasn't interesting for me at all either.
GTA4 was NOT dark gritty and realistic, only compared to San Andreas. In real life you can't shoot RPGs at a crowd of civilians and then drive around for 3 minutes until the police stop looking at you. Sometimes if the environment is somewhat more realistic, the game is more immersive to the player. That's what Rockstar was going for but they didn't completely change the GTA formula like some people say. Also GTA4's story was actually pretty compelling. I agree that the phone calls were awful though, but going on them did provide some funny dialogue sometimes.
Yeah looking forward to what they can do to the next iteration. Now that they have experience with the PS3.
This is a little off topic but do people still play GTA 4 online for the PS3?I was thinking of picking it up for $20 and it looks really fun.Id only buy it for the online really.Any of you guys still play?
I think Niko's gonna be the protagonist. Or at least making a cameo appearence. He was a well-liked character by everyone.
Food for motherfucking goddamn thought.

You know what else is boring? Having to drive across the whole map again because you die. It probably would have been okay if it had put you at the start of the shootout or something, but going back to where you pick up the mission is a waste of time. Checkpoints are clearly something that will be in GTA5 though. Rockstar has shown it's in their standard design formula now with the GTA4 DLC and Red Dead.

I want to see some crazy ass fun shit.
Well how come there is nothing about it on the Rockstar Games website?
Also, I'm looking forward to Max Payne 3 more than GTAV this time around, I will get both though.
Yeah, whatever.

gta's really weird on the PC anyway. I tried playing vice city on PC once. Controls were so confusing.

Sure it does. If you bought ballad of gay tony, messing with the explosive shotgun and APC really showed how dynamic the crumple physics can get. Of all the racers I've played, Only burnout seemed to have the most impressive body damage, and it wouldn't let you drive your car afterwards in the damaged state and the physics didn't match.

GTA sandbox, multiplayer, 20+ hour story line, what the fuck else do you want? Your playing it wrong.
I didn't like the last GTA. Saint Row is much better since you get to customize so much more. Plus every time I try to do something on GTA the cops case me for an hour.
I once read a rumor that the setting for GTA V will be a block-by-block copy of Los Angeles.
About an hour later, that info was taken off the rumor website...

Forza is definitely better. I don't play a ton of sim racing games, but I'd imagine most would compare favorably. It's their focus, whereas GTA has to worry about the rest of the game. Again, it's really not a big issue either way.

The sandbox isn't interesting by itself. It functions like a city, which is cool and could serve as a good backdrop, but it's not worth spending time in without good content. That's where the problem lies. Like I said, I found the story missions to be repetitive bores for the most part. I also found the multiplayer to be pretty throwaway. Then again, I'm not a fan of most multiplayer games. Essentially, I want a more varied experience. The missions can revolve around the same mechanics (driving, shooting, etc), but there needs to be more differentiation between each mission. I think they improved that in the DLC and in Red Dead.
Your playing it wrong.
Oh yes. I didn't enjoy something as much as you did so I'm clearly inept at knowing how to play videogames. Good job.
