In case you haven't noticed, it's out, and it's fantastic. I am, of course, referring to the metal band, August Burns Red's latest album. I really love the direction this band is taking. I've been following them since before they were famous, and I have loved every step of this journey. Really guys, it's an excellent album. Check it out.
Metalcore is a subgenre of metal, I've yet to see a good argument for why it wouldn't be.

My brother got August Burns Red's album Constellations, so naturally I took a listen to it as well to check them out. They aren't my favorite group, but they aren't bad either, a couple songs jumped out at me when I listened to them. Unfortunately, I have not listened to their latest album, I'll check it out soon though.

The song Poor Millionaire really caught my attention. I love ABR's lyrics and always have. This thread seemed to turn into a genre battle which is extremely redundant. Metal needs to unify because how strong is a divided nation? Back to ABR...They are loaded with talent and nobody can take that away from them. Their message is loud, clear and straight to the point. There is no bullshit with ABR music. It's in your face positiveness which I can see a few around here could use. ABR grew on me very quickly and Leveler is no exception. They didn't want to do another Messengers so if you were expecting that you STILL won't be disappointed lol. They bring it hard in a different direction.

It's not elitism, it's simple genre knowledge. Metal and Metalcore are not the same.
One of the biggest difference between both is the effort that metalcore makes to be pop music. It's taking so many influences from pop music, that it is basically just drifting away from the very little metal elements it had in the first place.
And even when metalcore bands don't try their hardest to be on MTV, they don't write metal music. It's funny that they even call it "metal"core. What is metal about it? The screams? I don't think so. A lot of genres use screams, and their screams are absolutely not like metal screams. The guitar riffs? Well, they really are not the same. SOMETIMES, metalcore riffs can have melodic death metal elements or influences, but at the end of the day, the rhythms and song structures are just very different, and the guitar leads couldn't be anywhere further from Metal. What does August Burns Red share with bands like Burzum, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Mayhem, Cynic, Arcturs, Edguy... or any band that isn't a cheap melodic death metal bands that tries to sell more copies?

Although some Metalcore is good music, and good Metal, one, simple fact remains...
Fail Christian Metalcore Band is FAIL.
August Burns Red would be better if they didn't use the typical and soooo predictable metalcore recipe all the time.
I listenned to that Composure track, and it wasn't that bad actually... It's metalcore... so yeah. But then, they start a generic build up based on chug-chug riffs and double-kicks, then they drop in a boring generic breakdown to get the kiddies to swing their fists around.
That's why they fail actually. They have some decent riffs. Decent musicians, but can't write... They copy other core bands and there isn't much personnality in their music.
Pretty bland. Occasional good riff, but mostly generic metalcore. Vocals plain suck, and I really can't find a way around them. Constellations remains to be the only decent album by them.
Listen to Periphery. It succeeds in what August attempts, but fails to do.
