As of now. Before, a working computer was heavier than an elephant.

Also, we don't even know how the brain works.

Did you ever hear of "neurology"?

I think that the fact that we do not even know how our own brain works is just another nail in the coffin of man.

Not only will our new robot successors know how and why they function... but they will be able to improve upon themselves exponentially.

Each new brain type would allow more improvements for the next brain model.

Imagine we could look at our own brains and then design a new brain that would work faster, hold more information, and just work overall better.

We already have conscious neural networks and millions of processors which are smarter than human minds. That bullshit about "omfg human consciousness is speshul" is a fossilized philosophical remnant of the 80s.

Except there's actually a point here,
How concerned you are about programmed consciousness depends on how much of a computationalist/functionalist you are, and both Hilary Putnam and John Searle already highlighted the problems with that theory of the mind and how much intuition they rely on, (read up on the Chinese Room thought experiment).

There's absolutely no evidence that a windows 7 is smarter than a human besides the fact that it makes calculations faster, (and if you take that as evidence than a TI-82 calculator is smarter than a human being).

And in that same fashion there's no evidence that chat bots or human behavioral algorithms act human by thinking rather than sending electrons to the right places to trigger words to come on a screen or for a voice box to make the right noises to give the appearance of human behavior.

I do think we will finally "create" artificial consciousness, it just wont be with computer algorithms or programs.
