Good God I can not begin to express how much today's movie's just piss me off. The plot is ridiculousness, the characters are one-dimensional, and they're trying so hard to basically make video game cut scenes now a days. Can anything remain non-combustible in a Michael Bay movie, not in our life time.
Most annoying of all I really only learned about this, this year. I got a torrent and after watching classic movies from the 60's and plus (the Good, the Bad, the Ugly/Apocalypse Now/ Deer Hunter) It just starts to get annoying how the quality in movies today compare. The last movie I actually enjoyed last year was Inception, and hey at least ithas a plot, albeit it doesn't make sense.
Is there any reason why they decided to just make movies a piss-fest, besides to entertain groups of 15 year olds who are only interested in the skirt next to him. So who do they think they're fooling, we all know its for the money, but can you at least make them better, to get more money.
Its shit like this that makes me proud to have a torrent as a "FUCK YOU" to these corporations, although that doesn't mean I won't go to the theaters, Super 8 looks good and Spielberg is one of the only decent directors who don't put out piles of shit to watch.
So thoughts, Am I just rambling, have movies lost their touch?

So basically this is a thread about how much you love old classics movies and look at today's movies as a pile of garbage?

yeah that's true, its also true for games too
like mafia 2, it was one of the best games i ever played, mainly because of the plot [but not the ending] but a lot of 10 - 16 year olds say "it sucks because its a game not a movie, in a game graphics and gameplay matters more than story" well i say fuck them, you don't remember the "awesome" sound effects and fight scenes, you remember the plot and story, and ask any descent gamer or old movies lover and they say old games and movies are better

I personally like new stuff now, because of what they can do with CGI and special effects, makes things alot more interesting in my honest opinion. As for good story telling, there is only so much people can make up now when alot of fascinating concepts have already been taken/invented.

The last decent movie I saw was Shutter Island. I fucking hate Inception though. And I use to enjoy watching the Harry Potter films, then their entire fanbase became teenage girls that are even more annoying than the Twillight fans.

I've observed that a mantra handed out to people disillusioned with today's mainstream western music scenes is "Listen to more radio for lesser-known, possibly underground, stuff." Similar advice may work for films concerning the very latest indies. However, you can't lean on many sorts of difference between indies and studio product now - that's practically the lesson handed out by indie hothouses such as Sundance and the like. Folks that started in indies, like Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, etc. became poster boys for places like Miramax, places themselves then in the process of becoming studios. Then, they're the only pictures you get of contemporary indies, even if they're not really indies.
Another issue has been another slump in the distribution of foreign films theatrically. There's good reason for it, because there's money involved. The problem for the intrigued consumer though, is that a message needs to be sent saying, "I'm interested! Gimme films!" when the consumer's knowledge of the scenes and various kinds of content is obviously restricted. In my opinion, the big money European art cinema that's really rocketed in different directions this past decade has been very fun to keep in touch with, but showings are restricted and there aren't really bubbles for people to get together and examine outside of elitist schools. It goes double for distribution in the US, if what I read in places is to be believed.
The Internet's been a mixed blessing too. When you read old material from before the time where the web was yet to really hit, filmmakers were full of optimism. Sundance had some online programmes in mind, the Dogma 95 filmmakers had a big official database uploaded for extra fun and info, some big-name European directors (I know Pedro Almodovar had a thing going, no idea if he still does) to promo their stuff and personally lend extensive advice, etc. In time, as we all know, it became big business. YouTube, obviously the first stop online for anything visual has been bought up for better or worse. Another problem echoes one that Blockbuster Video had for a very long time in its American chain: they refused to stock NC-17-rated material. This actually seriously made some distributors pass in the US, marginalising explicit, but non-exploitative, sexual material. Now it's pornography or nothing for nudity online, because the rules aren't written well at all. Dealing with sex survives in multi-national art cinema, but there's always the worry of not playing it well (particularly after a glut of, shall we shall say "poorly-choreographed", related films in the early 2000s). We'll see where it goes, but it's a little disheartening to have read all the cheery stuff drafted in the '90s.
The "no good films in the past twenty years" bit is plain wrong. Granted, there's hardly anyone who shot films like Leone did, but Leone ws one-in-a-million of... "mixed quality" exploitation films in the '60s and '70s anyway, ditto for other highly regarded B-thru-C-level filmmakers like George A. Romero or Russ Meyer or Mario Bava.
From a pile of DVDs on my bedroom floor alone I can name The Idiots, The Celebration, City of God, Deconstructing Harry, Groundhog Day, Big Man Japan, Reservoir Dogs and Fargo as films from within that period marked by the above poster, that I personally consider worth checking out at least (I would love a debate on any of them!). And yes, I need to re-arrange my collection, big time

I know your kind, completely dismiss the newer classics because you want everyone to know that you're different and artsy for liking older films.
Watch more films, not just the shit you see in the box office.

This is the new trend because this is the demand. People want to see the newest generation CGI and one more thing: it's so much easier to make such a movie and its more profitable. But you can enjoy these movies as well, you just have to watch it with the right attitude and expectations. You go to the cinema and say ok, I'm gonna watch a damn cool CGI movie and enjoy these 2 hours and nothing more.
However, I think you can find _really_ good movies nowadays as well. It's harder and you run into some disappointments but there will always be some demand for movies with deeper sense. There are less, but not zero. Just keep searching.

There are plenty of good movies being made, you just don't know where to look. Inception is barely in the top 10 of 2010.

You're rambling and generalizing. Get off your high horse. If you think movies today suck, try watching more than just main-streamed movies that get theatrical releases. Noob.
And if you do watch more than that and you still believe movies today suck............Then you're still generalizing.

Too much generalization, sadly. There are plenty of good films, which are not older than twenty years, but you would most likely just ignore them. And yes, it is rambling, what you did.

Guys Im 16, and although there are shitty movies out there, here are the few that I liked from the 2000's.
-Snatch
-District 9
-Saving Pvt Ryan
-LoTR trilogy
-Bourne trilogy
-Children of Men( this one I especially liked)
All Im saying is, it's easier to pick out great movies from the 60's than it is to do in this last decade.

Well, that makes more sense, since you acknowledge that there are still good moviews nowadays, and if you like more older movies, then this is your personal taste and completely acceptable of course.

And Im pretty selective, If a movie wants to be all action, then if thats the purpose I can't really critique on being one. My problem is, is that is all we have know. There are less movies that try to address things outside of car chases and explosions. I like the movies where you know a character can be a bad ass without showing it (Snatch) that shows work put in to produce that effect.
Meanwhile today there's hardly any words and more action. Bourne kills a max of 10 guys in the whole trilogy, that to me is believable and realistic in a movie that attempts to be. My problem goes out further when you reboot James Bond to make it more believable and realistic yet he still kills 30 some-what henchman in a span of 2 movies. And some points still don't make much sense in those movies as well.
It's not to say I hate every and each movie that came out since I was born, far from it. I just think It's easier to pick movies that I like back before my time. I mean for God's Sake they killed one of my favorite movie characters in the unnecessary remake that was the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
I'm didn't even say the last 20 years, I said in the 60's to 70's there were better movies, how you guys come up with those conclusions is beyond me.
And while those movies might seem bad to me, Its not fact all opinion, I just gave mine to see if anyone agrees. And guys lets be real no one clicks on threads without attention grabbing titles, after all the most viewed threads are the ones that saying anything about sex in them.
