Imagine this if you will: Due to some tragedy not unlike what we saw earlier this year, Japan enters a second "Sakoku" or embargo halting all international trade and practices including the development and production of video games. Seeing as Japan makes up the bulk of video game production and sales, this would no doubt affect the video game market. As disturbing a thought this is to most of you,What would be the outcome?Would Japan be able to sustain itself? And what of the countries that once relied upon Japan? do you think they will be able to create their own market or will the market collapse entirely?
And most importantly, How would you react to this? Would you move onto games from Europe and the US? Or would you give up gaming completely? What would you we do guys? WHAT WOULD WE DO?!

I hate pretty much every game that comes out of Japan, so I wouldn't care. Already got my playstation, so I don't care.

What American games would you buy for it then.

I never said American either. I can't wait for BF3, which is made by DICE, a Swedish company. Ghost Recon Future soldier also looks good, and Ubisoft is a French company.

This. I like games from other countries including here, but leaving out two of the three console manufacturers would pretty much be the death of console gaming in the hands of Microsoft.

Well actually the playstation is manufactured in Taiwan. So they would still be churning them out.

Every game made by Japan that isn't Paper Mario can suck my dick. They're all pixelated hentai, no thanks.

I highly doubt that they would do this, the only reason why they would do this is so they could support their own industry, but they wouldn't be wise to do this, because they still need all the help they could get.

Japan isn't as huge in the gaming market as it was 10 years ago. While yes, the VG market will take an obvious hit, it's not really a huge of an impact as one might think.
As disturbing a thought this is to most of you,What would be the outcome?Would Japan be able to sustain itself? And what of the countries that once relied upon Japan? do you think they will be able to create their own market or will the market collapse entirely?
America, South Korea, and most of Europe's gaming industry will not take much of a hit in the games department, as for the consoles that might be a different story. But since most of those consoles are being made in Taiwan, China and the like, business isn't going to suffer too much.
Japan on the other hand, will have a huge problem because they aren't going to make enough money by selling their games to the rest of the world, and since most of their consoles aren't made in Japan {I think.}, an embargo this day and age would really screw them badly, but won't really kill them outright.
And most importantly, How would you react to this? Would you move onto games from Europe and the US? Or would you give up gaming completely? What would you we do guys? WHAT WOULD WE DO?!
I'm not going to overreact to this, partly because Japan isn't going to pull this off without losing money for their industries, and most of my games that I play aren't Japanese made to begin with.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I would have to pick between the 360, PC gaming, and the iPhone. Of those three options, only the 360 doesn't strike me as abysmal, despite my indifference towards online gaming. I'd just have to play single player FPS's like Bioshock, WRPGs, and downloadable titles. It would suck, and I'd sorely miss the craftsmanship of Nintendo and my JRPGs, but it's better than the alternatives...

Well first thing I'll do is..."FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-"
Second thing I'll do is play Halo Reach, and Call of Duty.
Third rhing I'll do is cry myself to sleep as I think of all the awesome games that Japan could not bring to America.

I would dearly miss From Software, Suda 51, and Sega. But then I would just stay with Valve and Newgrounds.

Lets make this question simpler
people who play JP titles a lot & people who don't....
If japan game market stopped then we'd be swarmed with FPS/OTS games as that makes up most of the english/american market of game devs.

Obviously if they place it in, then the US, which is its distributor, cannot receive it, which means that Europe cannot receive it. So if Japan bans, then US don't get it, which affects Europe and Australia.
We depend on the Us, but sometimes there are games released in the US that are not available in Europe.

FPS games only account for 20% of the market.

Wouldn't effect me since I'm mainly a PC gamer. Also I like western games a lot more. Sorry Japan, your shooting games suck and your RPGs are overly linear.
Cheating? I like to call it strategic opportunity.
