There are a few issues I would like to address as I feel they are on going problems. I didn't really want to make a front page post about it, but I don't think the message is going to get out from my comments in our forums.

For starters a lot of users have figured out they can email me to have their portal entries removed. Mostly these are users who submitted crappy entries that they are now ashamed of, or do not want them lowering their batting average. If you MUST request me to remove your entries please rename them in the format "deleteXX01", "deleteXX02" with XX being a combination of your username. Like I could put "deletewf01", and this would ensure a unique title name. Be sure to include your USERNAME when you email me!

We also have a lot of users contacting me about their portal entries being flagged. Most of these entries, if not all of them, should be flagged and there is no point emailing me about it unless you really think it was flagged unfairly. By that I mean you submitted your original work that you put a lot of time and effort into. If you put together some porn slide show, submitted something that wasn't your work, then it should be flagged and you should NOT email me about it. You should wait until we have time to review it, and remove it from the site. Users who have two entries flagged will no longer be able to submit content to the Portal until they have been cleared out. So do not submit something that might get flagged if you don't want to be temporarily banned.

Also many users have been submitting public Flash demo games. We don't need a hundred versions of Pac Man, Asteroids, Snake, Tetris, etc. with different colors and music. While these public .FLA files are great learning tools, we don't need the exported .SWF files on our site unless you've made MAJOR changes to it. These entries will almost always get flagged, and if they do, do NOT email me about it!

Other than that we are preparing to get some new hardware that will improve the site's performance. Watch for updates from Tom about that. Also did you notice I didn't mention anything about NG TANK LOGO STICKERS? :P

Why improve the site with new hardware? What hardware? Its just that so far, I've gotten about 3-4 errors in the last month.

You need more admins to deal with all the crap you get. You should start enlisting email mods.

Suddenly I find that all those negative thoughts creeping around in the back of my head have been shot to the front in a blaze of unwelcomed glory.

There is more you just dont know about them. Rarlely Tim gets on to do things and other people keep the site working. Also as wade said, about the constant submissions of pac man astriods so on, he is very right and has made a good point. Many of them are just stolen work, with some small changes. Also the flag thing, is that not many users even read the FAQ at all and just emial wade.

yep.

I know that. It's just that Wade has to deal with most of the emails.

I saw him once. I remember thinking "who the hell is Tim, and why is his name in red?"

I have had a couple of errors, how come they are coming back anyway? I thought this post was going to be about Tim, the admin we've been seeing around lately.

That would sort of ruin the purpose of emailing Wade. People want to talk to Wade personally, not some punk sorting through his mail. Then we come into privacy issues, where Wade could get emails he doesn't want other people to see... etc etc. It's just not worth the hassle.

Good question. I've been looking into that and have found the cause. Fix to be in place within the next couple of days.

Tim's one of Tom's friends, who has been dealing with the site's network architecture on a voluntary basis.

This is a funny issue. There are very few sites that are as big as Newgrounds or receive as much traffic as it. Most other sites this size have automated responses to e-mails sent by users. And yet people still moan about response times to e-mails they've sent to Newgrounds staff members. :)

Why not? If the site's running tip-top all of the time without any errors or slow response times, then surely that's a goal that we'll strive to achieve.

I hate those people that use one of the samples that come with Flash MX/3DFA/Swish/flashkit and think that "HEY, INSTEAD OF A BLACK BACKGROUND IT'LL HAVE A BLUE BACKGROUND, OH MAN I'M A GENIUS!!!" *submits* People need to understand the difference between ORIGINAL work, and taking someone else's and slightly changing it.

I agree. People like that are a waste of time & they clog up the portal with usless sh¡t (3 quaters of it gets blammed though). *sigh* whatever happend to authenticity? A flash that is them in a way, but can still appeal to everyone else? I guess we'll never know.

Even though I believe authors should have the right to hide their emails from the people on newgrounds so they don't get spammed to hell with stuff from the people that see their movies.. I think making it mandatory to show emails would be better when it comes to flagging submissions. If you see a flash movie from "whateversite.com" and the author doesn't show their email, you don't know if their email is really something like "dan@whateversite.com" or "1337boy_877@hotmail.com" and either flag it thinking that it is stolen when in fact it is someone from the site. Or you don't want to risk it just in case it is someone from the site but turns out to be a thief. If you see their email is from the site, you'll know it's actually them. If you see some free hotmail account that was made yesterday then there's a greater chance it's not them.

I suppose the cause is highly technical and not something most people would understand? Or is it just the same cause as last time?

you should have "BBS regulars" interveiws. go randomly start asking BBS users about themselves. then put it in NG mag

also, what ever happened to those sweet older NG stickers!

i already have a tank sticker. i want different one. what about FDA stickers?

actualy. if you can just send me one of every NG sticker for free, i'd lurve you....

and i think i was the only person yesterday who actually knew who tim was. muahahahaha.

oh yeah. i think that if anybody notices these asshats trying to submit public files like that, they flag it immediatly. and if the person who submitted it emails you bitching, you should ban them for life....

I remembered him from one of those front page posts by Tom or Wade where they said something about the servers being down and he was trying to get one of them back up, or trying to restart one of them or something like that.

I realized a few months ago that Ross was still an admin. I didn't think he still was, but I was reading an old topic and his text was in white.

That's what I was thinking. I was looking at an old topic and I saw someone on level 10 with the white text and thought it was Tom (Since he was also level 10 back then) But I looked at the name and it was "Ross". I figured that he wasn't an admin anymore since I hadn't heard anything about him for months, but apparently he still is.

Ross is still on the administration list (and there really isn't any reason why he shouldn't be). I met him when I was over in Philly, which was really cool, given that I'd been in touch over e-mail for a long while before meeting him.
