I signed up because I wanted to see what it was like. There's no way in hell that I'm paying for the service when it becomes public though, regardless of how good it may be. Although the chance of it being good enough to be a premium service are highly unlikely.

NO. FUCKING. COMMENT.
See gamers, THIS is why we can't have nice things. Because a huge part of the community will eat shit like this. You think people will react and boycott, but for every gamer that does 5 others will mindlessly buy it.
I don't really care to be honest, I do not plan to get the new COD as of yet anyways. I will definitely not pay for the elite thingy. Why would I? ALso if it guves a significant advantage to some players then I will disregard the game, and it will, let's be honest, otherwise why pay for such a service?
*CoD Elite BETA
not the actual service mind you
This is bullshit.
That is all

They say 89% of 10 year old's are on the internet, 100% those play CoD, and 99% of those get their parents to buy into every dumbass thing available.
I swear to god every year it's ''lol fuck CoD this year, lets boycott'' but then every year the game makes more than the last.
Goodbye video game industry. Goodbye small game companies. Goodbye originality. Goodbye taking risks. Hello shitty gritty realistic FPS'. Hello overpriced DLC comprised of levels taken out of the multiplayer pre-development. Hello 5 hour long campaigns with junk stories. Hello bullshit monthly service additions on top of the games and online services of the consoles.
Is this the future of the gaming industry? If this does that well when it's actually released, then it will eventually move on to more unbalancing things and cheap in game bonuses for companies to rake in more money, and then influence more companies until all of the top sellers in the industry are dumbed down, grey and brown, multiplayer/monthly fee service based bullshit.
I wish the FPS genre would cave in upon itself and a new popular genre of games comes into fame and glory. If not this, then at least the firing of Kotick and destruction of activision.

Well to be honest Exploding Bunnies. It is very understandable why the gaming industry is in the state it's in.
Nobody takes risks because games cost sooo much to produce. It is a risky endeavor. Also now gaming is mainstream, and most people will buy almost any ELITE PRO PACK OF SCRUB KILLING. Because they fear to miss on content or whatever reason. Companies do it because it sells, why wouldn't they?
It does suck in the end, but do I think the gaming industry is worse than before? I wouldn't say that. Sure before there were less games that were similar, but I think there's still plenty of variety. Just more games overall. And the games you get more of are gritty blooman FPSes. It's really tricky not to get stuck in nostalgia where you only had 5 games if you were lucky because mom and dad wouldnt get you more on your nintendo 64. Which may give the impression that previous games were better, because you could only play that.
My opinion is that there are just so many fun games out there we can affort to ignore the big sellers that screw you in the ass by making you buy ten thousand map packs and weapons. (thinking of BF3 here). And sure there is the sadness factor because the game COULD have been good but honestly I don't think the game could have been any different than it is now.
im this close to boycotting cod
not that that will do much but, im getting really annoyed by how much praise this piece of shit series gets...

The thing I'm so concerned about though, is smaller companies (or even large ones) with great ideas who are too afraid to make their game/release it at some point due to the popular genres dominating the market, sucking the profit from them. Every multiplayer oriented Game-whore will always buy the next "BIG FPS", but will they always buy the next "Big Platforming adventure" or "Big Fantasy RPG"? If the better games don't get enough sales due to this shit then companies won't make them anymore, and will just try to cash in on what's popular.... I'm terrified for the future of great games and originality in the industry.

Everyone complaining needs to CALM... THE FUCK... DOWN.
This number is low compared to what I thought it would be for a FREE service...

i think people are mainly worried about how many of these people will stay and pay when it goes public.

And the sad part is that it's probably going to succeed.
How quickly the rest of the industry will join in, I'm not sure of, but these trends seem to move faster than I always seem to think.
I've never owned a COD game and at this rate never will. They are the quintisential game company, out to score with the lowest common denominator.
What's wrong with this succeeding? I'd love to see stats from a game online. This is no different from any other service out there (ie Bungie.net). They haven't even told us what the paid features are.

Yes, but the fact is you have to PAY FOR this. There's a reason why Steam and other companys do this for free.
No way will i support this. I'll not buy MW3 at all, actually. I'll just stick to Homefront and occasionally Blops. When I pay £35 for a game, I damn well deserve ALL the features that come with it. The overpriced map packs on Blops were already stretching the limit for me. But COD Elite crossed the line. I'm boycotting this crap. Hopefully, other game companies will see that this sort of thing is starting to alienate the fan base, and wont go there.

You don't have to pay for this. Do you really have the nerve to complain about something you don't know very much about?

It won't be long until the Beta is over and Activision tries and likely succeeds in cashing in.
No, you don't have to pay for it at all. You pay for certain features that haven't been announced yet. Everything you've heard about it so far are all free, besides the map packs.
I was one of the first.

I feel pretty, oh so pretty!
Some of you guys are pretty delusional with your ideas of boycotts and things, especially when we know SO LITTLE ABOUT WHAT COD ELITE ACTUALLY INVOLVES. Why are people getting angry at this? Does the idea of a premium service SO RATTLE your little minds that you even consider boycotting a game because it offers a service that YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR? Don't fucking pay for it, then. I don't complain that first class passengers on a plane get nicer seats, nicer meals, and are sped through check-in. I don't complain that Sainsbury's Taste The Fucking Difference Fillet Mignon tastes better than Sainsbury's Basics Generic Meat Chunks. They've paid more so they deserve more. And I won't complain that the CoD Elite is a service that charges money for things that HAVEN'T BEEN TALKED ABOUT YET.
If someone wants to pay £whatever per month that's their choice, and it in no way will affect whether I purchase the game or not.
Also one of the commenters on giant bomb nailed it.

Who are these people?! "I have no idea what this service is, but it says Call of Duty on it, so sign me up!"These represent the vast majority of people that buy games. They purchase 1 or 2 a year and play that. COD, maybe Madden, possibly a game for the kids. And that's it. Then they get their buddies and play only this. Then one buddy signs up so they all do. And they're happy, very happy.
And while COD guy is happy and enjoying his games and his friends, games enthusiasts come to enthusiast websites to wring their hands and get all upset that the masses keep buying COD.
In sum, COD guy is having fun, and enthusiasts are angry about that.

You really think 2 million people will stick around if it turned into a paid service? They won't. You can see the internet blowing up with hate already, but of course many of those people are still trying it because it's free. If they all of a sudden made everyone pay for every aspect of the service, people would stop using it. There would be some that would stick around, but I presume that would be a small fraction of the 2 million... something like 100,000-200,000.

Why do you care, you hate Call of Duty?
I don't think this would happen. Other companies will take advantage of Activision's stupidity and have millions of people flocking to their game. Everyone will be playing Battlefield and people like you can stop complaining about something so silly. I like that guy on GiantBomb's comment. People playing COD are having fun and people like you are angry about it... for some reason.
Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a huge problem? It's just the beta test, of course tons of people would sign up to see what it's like.
Tons of people always sign up for betas, does that mean they're all going to buy MW3, and sub to CoD:Elite? I would say no. This is really no surprise, at all.
If I was interested in MW3, I would sure as hell sign up for that beta myself, but I'm not. BF3 is all of the shooting I need this year.
okay heres the deal: paying fo features to make you better than most players (i.e. undiscovered pay for features) is a bad idea also NO COMPANY WILL ADOPT A PAY FOR MULTIPLAYER ON SPECIFIC GAME BECAUSE SALES WILL GO BACKWARDS no one is going to pay fee on top of fee, if cod adopted a feature like that they would go bankrupt. ok so honestly calm down no reason on getting upset, if you dont like it dont buy it, if you like unwind your underpants and calm the fuck down and get it, the internets gonna exxplode with hate learn to deal with it
WTF happend to Duke Nukem, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro?

Say that to the millions paying monthly fee's for MMO's, on top of buying the game.

As much I don't like COD anymore I got to agree. Why be so pissed about a service that haven't been announce yet about its features and the stuff you have to PAY for? When the beta's over THEN you guys can talk about it. COD elite just honestly looks like something like Bungie.net. In Bungie.net you can check your stats, make videos, and also hot spots, and etc. And I think that's what Activision is doing. But the stuff you have to pay is unknown. So the people that are bitching about it, can bitch about it when they find out what you have to pay for. Of course there's gonna be exclusive stuff because they award people who give them money and that's what all companies do.
