I think 2001 is his best, closely followed by Dr. Strangelove.
However I think A Clockwork Orange is incredibly overrated and tedious drivel.

What do you guys think is the greatest (and worst) Stanley Kubrick film?

right, an interpretation of a book that was influenced by a book called Finnagans Wake. this stuff is too cryptic for your meager understanding

I love Stanley Kubrick. 2001, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, some great films.

Best: tie between Full Metal Jacket and The Shinning
Worst: Eyes Wide Shut

A clockwork Orange is a great film but it's not really my favorite and I haven't seen 2001 and Dr. Strangelove.

A Clockwork Orange is probably my favorite, followed closely by The Shining, and then 2001.

I love 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's slow at first, but it gradually builds as you keep going.

Funny because Full Metal Jacket is the opposite in some way starting off fast and then moving at a slow pace, which works for it.

The Shining isn't too bad and I have yet to see A Clockwork Orange.

Strangelove is simply my favourite satire of all time. It's just vital viewing for anyone hoping to break into that area, or even if you just need pointers on supposedly easy things like visual gags - <3 Terry Southern. He was doomed to play second fiddle to everyone he ever worked with, which is an inevitable shame as far as writing goes.

Got some love for nearly all of Kubrick's entire output following Paths of Glory really though, like most people.

You know, I still read articles on 2001 now and then and while all the buzz is interesting, there's one recurring shot in it that I just adore. And it's ridiculously simple - it's the one that frames HAL 9000's interface entirely in a close-up. There's dialogue off-screen intermittently, but otherwise there's just this quiet air conditioner-esque droning. And to me it's creepier than the haunting image of a monolith peering over a bed like a Native American mythical monster.

I think he's possibly the single most overrated filmmaker of all time. Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove are average films at best, and 2001 is impossibly boring shite. Not seen anything else.

I love Kubrick. It's hard to pick a favorite, I've liked everything I've seen so far. I'll go with Full Metal Jacket.

No least favorite.

2001 is boring as shit, but i respect it as an art movie - in which case it's great. That's the only interesting thing i have to say about his movies, the rest are good. The Shining is my favourite though.

Thus far I have seen four Stanley Kubrick films. Them being 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining.

Personally I loved A Clockwork Orange. Probably one of my favorite films of all time. I thought A Space Odyssey and The Shining were alright. They're not easy to watch, but they are quite unique and memorable. And I absolutely hated Full Metal Jacket. Seldom has a film annoyed me as much as this film did.

Dr Strangelove or How I Learned To Stop Worrying About the Bomb is still on my watchlist. I don't really care much about his other films at the moment.

Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director, and I would say he's the greatest director of all time. I loved A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, and Barry Lyndon the most. Among those films I also saw Spartacus and Paths of Glory. I never got around to seeing Lolita or The Killing, unfortunately. I guess his worst would be Eyes Wide Shut, which I also never saw. Kubrick himself said he didn't like it, and that it didn't turn out at all how he wanted it to.

Best: The Shining.

Worst: The black-and-white one that I can't remember the title of which has dialogue like "I haven't felt this way since I kissed my dying grandmother".

Well it's not exactly meant to be a 'fun' movie...

That doesn't make it more enjoyable to watch.

I watched 2001 and regretted it.

No matter how much of a deep meaning it's supposed to have, it was just so damn boring, the pacing is all tits-up too.

I love The Shining. The music, the acting, the whole movie is just creepy. You never feel settled when watching it. You are always aware that something bad is going to happen, from the very start. That music just fucks with your head.

Of course, the story also comes from my favorite author, Stephen King.

Funny, I'm reading the book right now. Not to far in yet, but as always, King just has a way with words that no movie can do justice. Obviously, you have to cut down the content for a movie, so Kubrick did do a really amazing job.
