3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsI've come to find that older games are always best in certain genres, and specifically in series that have been around a long time. Age of Empires: the third game sucked. Roller Coaster Tycoon: the third game sucked. They ruined Sim City in recent times. Civilization III was the best in that series. All the games that were good in these series were released before 2005 and most a lot earlier.
What do you guys think? Do you like newer games in these sorts of series better? Do you even like this genre? (you notice the theme of strategy/tycoon here.) The older games contained a certain charm and simplicity that made it more fun to play.

I love Age of Empires and I still play it. :3

Fallout 2 was an amazing game, then Bethesda decided to shit on Fallout 3.
I AM THREAD KILLER!
I really like Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Sim City 2000, The Sims 1+2 and AOE 2+3. Sometimes they get the third one right, but generally I find that enhanced graphics tend to bring with them more elaborate gameplay that "improves" upon the traditional form the game took. This often ruins a game's original simple, fast paced, easy interface.
Are you kidding me? I have Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors on my god damn desktop.

It's because the old games focused on content and what the developers' thought will be enjoyable. Now most of the strategy/tycoon games imitate former successful games, and ruin it, improve their graphics, thinking it is the only criterion for a game, and immensely advertise them.

They don't make them like they used to... Nintendo that is.
I just got my first PC game, Diablo II, so I'm not exactly an expert. But right now, all these shooter games end up being the same, and the only new strategy games are sequels (Starcraft 2). So it may not be the older games are "better", but their genre and need for actual strategy is refreshing.
just sayin
