Hello, everyone. =]
Since it's summer I thought I would try to find a new hobby and I really enjoy watching flash cartoons. (One of my biggest inspirations for getting started is OneyNG, known for Leo and Satan). So I recently got Adobe Flash and I'm just wondering how did everyone start out with this? Keep in mind I'm extremely new (I've only been messing around with the interface as of now). I'm just kind of lost. Also I am sorry if this isn't the right forum to post this in. =/ Just a little desperate :P
Thank you.

Welcome to animating. Things to keep in mind: 1) this will take practice, 2) this will take time to do, and 3) this will probably take at least a spark of talent.

Start off by learning the tool (Adobe Flash), start small and learn the basics. YouTube and Newgrounds both have tutorials for Flash. A great place to start is www.freeflashtutorials.com (aka Cartoon Smart). I started out with this guy's tutorials years ago and they really push you in the right direction.

@th1rt3en. Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I figured this would be something I would be putting some time into.....what kind of talent would that be =[ I'm not a very talented person haha. Thank you so much for the link, that is exactly what I was looking for. Just needed something to get me started. =]

there are a lot of good tutorials in the forums, you should check them really, i even find stuff really important there [this isn't the first time someone make a thread about his first attempt in flash]

Agreed.
You have to be good at drawing to be good at animating.
I have been drawing for 10 years and animating for 2 or 3
Can you see the contrast? Animate with NOT sticks but rough body for a while until your good enough drawer to add facial features excetera excetera.
I take it your not 10 years old like i was when i started so dont go to pivot.
Seriously dont do it its a waste of a year of animation.
Also Learn to draw backgrounds

Like Jomillex said, a good drawing skill is helpful. But you don't need to be an artist to animate. It helps, but it's not necessary. Like me. I can draw, but not as well as some people I know.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I guess I didn't really understand the full job of animating when I picked out this hobby xD. I'm not really that good of a drawer. So, is everyone saying I should just practice drawing for now?

Drawing will definitely help, but it's not necessarily needed. I'm not that good at drawing and I've been animating for years. Started with stick figures (good for studying movement), moved onto simple characters (such as clocks), and also teamed up with people who do the character art while I do the animation.

you can't post animations on newgrounds if you were 12-16 you have to be 18+, check for your self, here's the agreement : http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/agreeme nt_submissions.html
it's in the last line

but i'm sure there are other good places to post your animations [like youtube], just google "submit flash movies" and even you should also google "earn money from flash movies"
