i didn't read the proposal, but i'm curious if one of the reasons their considering this is to avoid the infrastructure expansion necessary to support the growing driver population. cars are fun and all but i wonder how long we can keep supporting large, individually controlled transportation mechanisms, regardless of fuel source.
especially in Europe, i don't see them being allowed to tear down the Colosseum to make driving room.
that said; i wonder how far they'll get with this.

You guys do realise that with the way fuel prices are now by 2050 the vast majority of cars will probably be alternative fuel?
It's not the lack of crimes that values your morality but your capacity for contrition.

I thinks its a good idea but not sure it can be totally implemented specially in big cities like London or Paris etc. Where I live in Funchal, a small town of 100k about 1/4 of the streets in downtown have been cut off from traffic. Its much easier to do in smaller cities.
Besides in 40 years time I'm sure cars will be running on compressed air or hydrogen. Electric cars are still not the best solution as countries would have to produce a lot more electricity to run so many cars.

Bring in alternate fuels! Shame on you climate change deniers!
Well, guess what? Climate change is real, we have to reduce the effects, so bring in renewable energy!
I still like Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven Riven!

I think that's achievable in the big cities. To a certain extent, that has already been implemented in Singapore. SG has a very efficient transport system and they do make it prohibitive to own and drive a car. Of course SG is way much smaller than Europe.

Wait, they want to try to improve the rail links in London even though we have one of the worst pricings for rail travel?
I really want to see how this unfolds and how much BS will follow.

In Blgium it isn't such a beef, as long as they can deal ith parking space. It's actually very pleasant to walk around in the middle of the street through shopping lanes, ithout havaing to make way for traffic. things ould be a lot more relaxed. louvain la neuve, For example is a great place to walk around at, ithout any cars present.
The only troubles I'm having personally, ould be the amount of Parking space needed (subterrean constructions and whatnot. and it will require a lot of road construction to redirect cars around cities. Of course I'm assuming ith cities, this only implements city centers, rather than every piece of land that's inhabited.

Also, pic from Louvain-la-neuve
The transition phase would be a bitch, but the final result would be awesomesauce.
