I think one thing that's going to happen is a sharp increase in devices that utilize and work in tandem with the main devices, such as more physical gadgets you can plug into your smartphone and use an app for, especially with however the technology for thought-controlled headband-to-software is developed. Right now you could have a small army of ten or so quadcopters that obey your thoughts for about 10k and some firmware/software

Read the book Eaarth. The author explains how we basically already ass-raped our planet, and we're all fucked, unless we act this second.

Depressing shit.

I actually don't think we'll advance much at all. We'll be too worried about trying to replace fossil fuels.

Also remember like less than 50 years ago everyone thought thst today we'd be driving flying cars and living on the moon.

No.

Aliens wouldn't invade earth because they'd just be wasting their time.
If that's not reason enough, they'll be 2000 or even more lightyears away from us, so by the time connection is established with 1 radio signal, it'll take 2000 more years for another signal, and if they actually come down here and plan to invade earth, then it'll take more than 50 years for that to happen.
Also, what makes you think WE won't go there and invade the aliens' habitat before they invade earth?

People's imagination is too limited to think of a realistic image of the future. 50 years ago, who would have predicted that everyone would use computers? Or cellphones that are actually miniature computers?
No, people have been predicting flying cars since the car was invented and it won't happen.

We already have most of this stuff.

hovercars

Well, we have flying cars and helicopter cars, they are just very expensive

moved on to an alternative energy source

Lots of countries already have, France is 70% nuclear

have restrictions on the amount of children you can have

China.

be lacking in water supply

Africa.

have to purify our air because we have become so polluted

China again.

need a shield around the earth to protect us from the sun as our Ozone layer will have dissipated

That ones pretty stupid. The ozone layer hasn't dissipated in the last few million years, so I don't know what makes you think it will any time soon. If you are referring to the hole cause by the oxygens in the O3 dissociating with chlorofluorocarbons, which are now banned and the hole is being repaired.

and colonized the moon.

Possible, to some extent. I was think maybe one 3-man moon base or so, I doubt permanent colonization.

Hasn't that been what people thought the future would be like for the last hundred years?

I think we will probably have all of our TVs and movies in 3D, which I personally hate, but it does seem like it will happen. We will have the most sophisticated and fastest iPads and machines yet, but I doubt we'll ever have flying cars. You see, a flying car would use a lot of gas and it would require people to become a lot more skilled at driving. Can you imagine how hard it would be just to get a pilot's license? Everyone would need one of those.

Not as implausible as some would have you think. For one, You are on to something concerning the fuel sources needed, we would definitely need to be more efficient with fuel by then to make it widely available to consumers. However, the licensing would not be that big of a deal. With hovering/flying vehicles, it would be much easier to phase people in to a new traffic system that is automatically maintained and controlled by central computer services. You wouldn't steer, your car would, based on your current destination. Your speed and angle would adjust to ensure you don't slam in to any vehicles on perpendicular or otherwise problematic paths. It's too hard to implement that kind of system in today's roadways because there would be too many people without the technology controlling their cars and it would be too hard to get everyone to release control of their steering wheels, and you can't have a system where some are automatically controlled but some aren't because our "oops, incoming drunkard at the wheel" sensor technology isn't precise enough to not cause disasters. If every car was on the system, though, then it'd be much safer and do-able. Plus, by then, our sensor chip technologies will be more advanced, too. The govt would love us all to be on an automated system like that, with the full power to lock our doors and take us right to jail in case they decide they want to, so I don't think it's such an implausible idea. If they could get us off the ground with the technology, they'll let us have it, I think, and require we all "sit" in automated centrally-controlled vehicles where we don't get to drive, we only get to type in our destination

Either we will be so advanced that it is currently impossible to imagine (becasue they predict to make robots with the capacity to think like humans, without any of the negative things about humans, which will create a better robot, which will create a better robot, etc.), or everybody will be dead.

There's no way the world as it is can be sustained for 50 years. Either we'll begin to utilize alternate energy (most likely solar) or we'll crash and burn. Either way we'll still be here, but there won't be too many of us if we have to learn the hard way.
