Did you play Ragnarok Online? Do you like that game?
3.51 / 5.00 13,564 ViewsWindows XP looks more crisp, it's more customizable, it's more manual & self explanatory when you understand how it work, it takes up barely any RAM & will work on a wide variety of machines (my 1997 laptop included).
It's compatible with software from the 70s, the defragmenter at least shows some graphical representation of what it did to the data on your HDD, it even lets you choose which drive to defragment & even shows you what it's doing & what stage of completion it is at using percentages.
The voice recorder recorded in .wav & enabled you to edit the audio, the Vista voice recorder uses a different format & you can't even edit it. What's even more frustrating is that you can't even record from speakers, the audio capabilities are shit on these new operating systems!
Even Windows Server 2008 only uses the classic/basic Windows theme, they must clearly be aware that the old look was better. What makes it worse is that in Windows 7 you can't get the classic theme to look like Windows Classic, it's bulgy & ugly.
Vista & 7 have less than XP over all. They just took loads of shit out, adding little in, increased the RAM usage & made the window theme prettier. You can also search for things in the start menu which is useful; none of this worth losing everything else that XP had to offer.
Microsoft should scrap Vista & 7 clones & just work on a more customizable & easy to search through version of XP.
What do you guys think?
On a side note, Windows Millennium has transparency in the "attributes" section, they took that out for XP.
Windows 7 got rid of Stereo Mix and so, my hatred grows for it. I miss having XP.

I mean for MS-Paint. When you go on attributes & see the picture size in numbers you can tick a box that says something about "transparency", why throw out something useful like that?

I miss Space Cadet 3D...
But seriously, things change. If you want to go along, do it. No one says you have to change OS every time a new one comes out.

I opened this thread up half-expecting some actual facts.
Silly me.

Fedora beats all of those, you can customize it beyond anything and it pretty much doesn't use any RAM or disk space. In fact, it fits on a Flash drive and can run from one too.

OP must not have a copy on Windows 7.
I lived on Windows XP and now have had 7 for about half a year. Yes, I have had to relearn how to do things, some cases I have less control (I admit, it does annoy me) but Win7 handles so many things in such a better way.
I have not had half as many problems as I have had with XP. I think Win7 has so many more features than XP, its just we can't see them or haven't noticed them yet.

I'm going to compare more operating systems in my virtual machine to have a more informed & enraged rant.
Yet to experience: Xenix, MSX-DOS, MS-DOS, Windows 1.0, Windows 2.0, Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1x, Windows 3.2 (if I can translate it to English), Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, Windows Home Server,
Experienced: Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (this is actually one of my favourites), Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7.
Why post this when Windows 7 has been out for a while?

Windows XP is still good until 2014.

So have you never experienced the joy of Win95 and ME? And you doing these tests on a virtual machine? I take it that's why you keep going on about ram then?

Hah! It seems I've always been right. XP all the way!
I have looked up some speed test and in most cases Windows 7 takes the cake, and for people who game Windows 7 is the best yet. I also like the whole SuperBar concept and it makes my dick hard.
Girls just wanna have fun.
"You can't be careful on a skateboard man." - some kid
But Windows 7 is soooo sexy.
7 much easier to use in my opinion.
No to mention the easy search bar on the start menu.
Yes xp is better to customise, but only little 12 year olds care about themes to make it look pretty. But even then that is not what microsoft intended, that was because of haxorz.
Windows was and never will be created so that people can just mod it, it's created for ease of access, which it works PERFECTLY at.
If you want a system for programming, modding, runs super fast, etc. Get ubuntu. Which is exactly why I have both.

Windows 2000 & Windows ME are two different operating systems, I stated that I've experienced Windows ME.
And you doing these tests on a virtual machine? I take it that's why you keep going on about ram then?
No, I can clearly see the stats when looking at how much RAM XP takes up compared to Vista & 7. If they were better operating systems than XP then the extra RAM usage is understandable, but Vista & 7 are worse, so taking up more RAM is a kick in the teeth.
Here's the operating systems I've used on a real machine & what ones were virtual:
Physical Machine: Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista (Home Premium & Ultimate), Windows 7 (Pro).
Virtual Machine: Windows 98, Windows XP, WIndows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008.
I've never done 64 bit though.

I can't believe it took me this long to realise XP is superior. I still need to get the 64 bit versions though.

Windows 7 looks good when put in front of Vista, it's still worse than XP. I heard IE9 was good though.

For the less that it does.

Which is a small thing weighed up to the down sides of 7 to XP.

I disagree. It makes it more of a personal computer. I gave mine a professional look, customising it doesn't mean making the looks important like in Vista.
But even then that is not what microsoft intended, that was because of haxorz.
Elaborate.
Windows was and never will be created so that people can just mod it, it's created for ease of access, which it works PERFECTLY at.
The later OSs have more flaws than XP.
If you want a system for programming, modding, runs super fast, etc. Get ubuntu. Which is exactly why I have both.
XP is better. It's not just about how much you can edit, but also the fact that you can even edit the colour full stop. It's such a small thing that makes Vista & 7 that extra bit worse. Course; you can put the classic themes on, I like that part of Vista. But the classic 7 theme is shit & not classic looking.
It does what you tell it to do. None of the UAC Admin Permission bullshit.
But 7 runs a direct X 11 platform and thats a +10 for them!
I HATE vista because of the stupid search bar shit in your start menu. I like how you can click start and it has everything you need, your documents, control panel, latest used programs and so forth. And I like the large icons in rows instead of down scrolling lines.
Remember when you had a button that explored higher up the directory?
My Vista Ultimate & virtual XP machine.
7 is more compatible than vista. 7 also has its own protection so no need for a separate anti-virus programme. I understand 7 may be a little slower and runs a little less programmes than xp, but except for that 7 and much more superior than xp.
I prefer XP over windows 7 but I'm alright with windows 7. It's probably going to be better in the long run anyway.
