I'd like you to tell me if you can think of this as a logo for a real company and give me some advise for improvement or new ideas.
What's an Englishman got to do with surfing? I mean, the English are awesome and I can believe surfers are too, but where did you ever draw the connection?
A rather disgusting-looking git that should have been disposed of ages ago.

I would keep this out of a portfolio, logos generally need to make sense and be instantly recognizable this one makes no sense. Fancy hat man and sIrfboard more thought should be put into a logo

... "Sir F. Board"? Is that how the two link?
perhaps, although I think he just did it because the dot for the i could be a monocle. but if it were done on purpose I would make it more noticeable, like make it Sir F. Boards. otherwise people just see sirfboards and think what does a fancy hat man have to do with misspelled surfing.

I was getting more of the impression of Gentlemanly Surfboards....
or something along those lines
"Well chaps, what a fine day to 'Rip' it up as they say in the Americas."
"Why Yes Reginald, a fine day to 'Hang 10' I'd say."
"Yes, indeed"

Nope, it's just for the pun.
I don't get why you all say gentlemen don't have anything to do with surfing.
What does mercury have to do with surfing, what do appels have to do with computers?
Imo it would fit quite well, if you sold "oldschool" surfboards.
But my team decided on a more younger and targetgroup, so the idea is kinda off the table.
Back to the drawing board i guess (in fact we need a name first)
A thread where I can actually drop good information!
Having made logos for a bunch of small businesses as well as my band's I can tell you the three best things about a good logo is that it's:
Recognizeable at any size
It's simple
It gets a point across
That logo would probably work actually, if you cut the text and just had the fine gentleman.
Puns are never bad
Who is the hunter?
I can't get past the fact that you made the logo "sirfboards."
Loved it, reminds me of the Marx Brothers (dunno why)
But...are we talking about WHISKY in here ? otherwise that logo makes no sense
"THINK SURF" as stupid as it sounds, waves, sea, sun, boards, sand , and try to keep it simple
take care =)
