people don't take Herman Cain seriously because he has literally no prior experience in an elected position, so he doesn't have the name recognition, connections, etc. that politicians do. it doesn't help that liberals think he's Michael Steele, and considering how desperate everyone is to not be seen as racist, I'm not sure if that's entirely inaccurate.

The reason is many white voters feel intimidated if they do not intend to vote for the black candidate. They fear that if they tell a pollster they plan on voting against the black candidate the pollster will think they are racist.

source? that'd be a very useful study for me to throw at the far left

Herman Cain has made some remarks about not trusting Muslims to hold any office in the government and he also has said he wants to go back on the gold standard. Loony just about covers that guy...

He's a moderate if you ask me

I don't trust Muslims to hold any office in the government either, I also don't trust christians, jews, buddhists, atheists, pagans, or really anyone for that matter.

As for the gold standard, i find it remarkable that a former chair of the kansas fed holds that position.

It's called the Bradley Effect. If you have access to JSTOR through a library you can look up the poli sci journal articles written about it.

There is a counter-argument that in black v white races the poll numbers are starting to coincide with election results. Part of this is due to the fact that the old generations that would vote along racial lines just aren't around anymore. I can agree with this.

However, in the case of Obama I think he has become a polarizing figure when it comes to race. A few examples:
* During the first few months of his administration while he was fighting for stimulus legislation a woman's pet chimpanzee went nuts and brutally attacked her friend. The cops shot and killed the monkey. A few days later The New York Post published this political cartoon. Immediately ppl on the Left was labeling it racist because of historic use of monkeys to depict blacks in a negative light. Nevermind the fact that 1) Obama did not write the stimulus package and 2) as president he does not have the authority to introduce legislation.

* When a buddy of his, Professor Gates, a black prof at Yale (I think) was arrested by a white cop who responded to a possible break-in call. The prof got beligerent and uncooperative with the cop. The cop then did what cops do with anyone who is beligerent and uncooperative (regardless of color)...he arrested the prof. Obama then made comments that amounted to: "I don't know what happened...but the cop acted stupidly." As more facts came out...it appeared that the cop was justified in his actions and had gone to great lengths to handle the situation with dignity.

* The recent DoJ dropping of charges against two New Black Panther Party members who intimadated white voters during the 2008 election. The case was a slam-dunk...but it was dropped.

Gotta go see the wife in MS...so I'm ending this post real fast.

I think Obama is a racially polarizing personage. If not through his actions...those of his supporters. I think it will make whites nervous about vocalizing opposition to him in polls and other ways. Thus bringing the Bradley effect back into play.

"whites are racist"
"whites aren't oppressed"
"political correctness is just about not insulting people"
etc.

Those are talking points without meaning when not in context. So I repeat: How would this study hurt the far left?

(feel free to say the same thing, but give it some explanation this time)
