I understand those fuckers took our personal information. (This is exactly the reason I only used PSN Cards to buy shit.) And everyone is worried and changing passwords and stuff, as they should.

But I have a question.

I'm not saying it's not possible, because honestly I have no idea or experience in this field.

How are the hackers going to shift through 77 million credit card information pages to mess around with?
What? Do they have a code thing where they just put all the numbers they collected and take out as much money as they can? I'm having a hard time understanding this.

Sony is going to be sued so badly that they will not be a company ever again, great thing too since they obviously have poor security on their network.

Credit cards have two numbers on them, the actual account number used to identify the card, and a 3 digit security code physically located on the back side of the card.

The security code is designed for just that, security.

Without a matching security code to a card number, a bank will not approve any transactions. This works great if someone were to somehow find your credit card number but not the security code.

Problem is, online services that deal with credit card transactions need both of these things, a credit card number and security code.

So there you have it, with those two pieces of information compromised, hackers would simply need to match the codes up, and provided Sony stored the info together somewhere, then that job is already done for them unfortunately.

An article I pulled up from a quick Google search revealed that the account data was compromised, meaning that these hackers probably have a neat list of names, addresses, emails, phones, credit cards, etc of 77 million customers.

And as a reply to TheKlown, Sony has the money to handle this, it will just set them back a lot...

Sony hasn't earned a penny from their sony playstation 3. While this might not bankrupt sony, it may prevent them from making a ps4 or being in the video game business. Which I'm all good with if sony left because they're system doesn't have that many good games on it anyways.

Okay honestly, you haven't answered my question at all. All you have done is started to troll and flame in a pathetic fanboy rant. Your "facts" are just your irrelevant opinions.

I never said it wouldn't set them back big time. I just said, your comment about them not being a company ever again was a tad extreme because they have made advancements in other fields of technology. Although SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America) will probably take a crippling hit from this, that is one child company of a whole big multibillion dollar parent company, Sony Corporation (SNE). So just saying that "sony" will cease to exist as a company isn't really probable, but SCEA may have to seriously downsize or possibly shut down.

Had I not heard that fail0verflow completely hacked its way into the PS3's heart, I would have been much more surprised. If a few hackers really compromised the whole of PSN, then... I don't know what to say to Sony.

Anything except the NGP might be delayed a year.

Can we outright say that they have access to all 77 million users?

Has anyone actually come forward and shown that the credit card they used to purchase with PSN has been used by the same hackers?

And Sony aren't about to burst or stop making games. They're a billion dollar Corporation. A few lawsuits of what a million or two isn't going to affect them. They'll be more concerned about inflicting their own lawsuits on the ones responsible for the damage and ensuring their security isn't breached in the future.

They will probably sell the information off in chucks to others. That way they make money but don't leave a huge papertrail behind if they try to get the money themselves.
