Hey guys, I've been running into this question for a while.
I own both synths but I every time I open up z3ta the interface scares me and I retreat back to my comfort zone (sylenth1) lol.
What I'm wondering is, which synth is good for what purpose? like, would it be better to use sylenth1 for basses and z3ta+ for pads etc? Cause if I have both synths I figure I may as well make the most of both of them but I really don't know what z3ta can do better than sylenth1 can. Hence I use sylenth1 for everything xD
Any advice would be appreciated :)

I like sylenth1 for both.
z3ta+ is better if you want to build off a preset, but I find sylenth1 is very easy to make your own, regardless of what you're trying to make.

From what I remember:
Z3ta+ works with wavetable synthesis making it much more fitting for lush, warm and unique pad sounds and atmospheric elements imo.
Sylenth1 is your basic (but oh so powerfull) subtractive synthesizer (3xosc, ts404, wasp (even subtractor for you reason lovers) etc). Mostly used for basses, leads etc
I'm sure they are both great for everything but comparing 2 different kinds of synthesis makes it very hard to make just case for which is "better".

I find it really hard with sylenth1 to not make standard superfat or lush analog synth sounds am I the only one having this problem?

Zeta's interface looks impeneterable, but if you read the help manual then you learn a lot of its hidden secrets, and as with any synth experimentation goes a long way... as for Sylenth1 I can't say I've ever heard of it. Someone further up compared it to 3xOsc and TS404, so im assuming it's your pretty standard, simple rig.

I love Sylenth1, nearly all of the synths used in my song here, use it. I don't know about the other one though..
