As if voting even mattered... All that matters are the electoral college votes, and they don't give a shit about what the people think. 300 years is more than enough time for a country with no major change in government to become corrupt, especially a democracy.

Okay, let's disenfranchise a good portion of the elderly that didn't attend high school, as well as people who had to quit school to raise their children, a number of poor people, yeah, this sounds like a swell idea.

There's a reason the poll tax and the literacy test was made unconstitutional via an amendment.

if you know me at all, you know I'm a very strong advocate of lowering the voting age. making a degree necessary could really hurt that cause. so no, I'm not with you on this.

It sounds like a good idea but with only 30% of the people who can vote actually voting it's not going to make much of a difference anyways. It would just lead to even less people voting. There really isn't much you can do to change how informed voters are so just having as many people vote as possible is the best way to go imo.

I think that voting should require at least 2 years of service to the nation (not necessarily OVERSEAS military deployment, but militia, scientific testing, or something along those lines).

Service guarantees citizenship.

You didn't really think out your idea, did you? I'd refute what you proposed, but RacistBassist has already done the honors for me.

We already have this system in place.

It's called the electoral college.

The Electoral College was never necessary and should never have been implemented in the first place. The very fact that the Electoral College can vote any way they wish makes the popular vote near meaningless.

I propose the abolishment of this organization.

Traditionally they entire state's electors vote for whoever won the majority of the popular vote, however, it is not unheard for a rogue elector to be a complete dick and vote for stephen colbert or mickey mouse.

Indeed. Such "faithless electors", as they're called, are rare. But the very fact that they can be rogue makes me desire the abolishment of the system.

The Electoral College does have more flaws than one, evidenced by the 2000 presidential election.

No I do not because I don't think that a BA in sculpture makes a person any more knowledgeable about politics than if they had no degree at all.

This is probably one of the most important reasons why a government should not be elected solely by those with a high school diploma.

In a democracy, a government should always represent the whole of society, so that includes the poor people, the idiots and the people who never had much of a chance in society to begin with. If you're discriminating those without a high school diploma, you're discriminating a large part of the lower classes. As a result you'll get the so called second-rate citizens nobody gives a shit about.

Hah! That was a complete sham right there. And don't get me started on the 2004 election and all of it's controversies with possibly rigged voting machines.

The elections of 1876 and 1888 are further evidence that the Electoral College is deeply flawed.

Voting no longer becomes a right, but a privilege. How unfortunate.

There are people who wouldn't be able to qualify for these kinds of jobs. Should they be disenfranchised as well, ViolentAJ?

I think everybody the age of 18 should be allowed to vote. (but screw the citizenship thing, you could live in the U.S. 15 years, do nothing wrong, and still not become a citizen to vote).

I think the real problem here is that people should be better educated in the nation's schools. A lot of people are very dumb and so parenting should also be enforced so that people could be smarter and choose better choices in life.

With all of this, a diploma or any other restriction for voting should not be allowed because it would be unnecessary.

What?
