Why get Portal 2 on 360? Apr. 18th, 2011 @ 08:24 PM Reply

Aside from people only owning a 360 and nothing else. It just seems like the other versions are a better deal compared to the 360.

That's basically the only reason. Valve games are the only shooters that I get on PC, and the rest of my Steam library are PC exclusives, aside from bundled games.

You're right; unless your only option is the 360 both the Steam version and PS3 version (which from what I've heard comes with a Steam copy) have better offers available.

That's a piss poor excuse and this is coming from the guy currently ranked #1 on the NG Gamerscore Leaderboard. If you really want the achievements use a rental service like Gamefly or borrow it from a friend in a few weeks (the old fashioned way.)

I'm getting Portal 2 on Steam because it's $15 cheaper and thanks to the pre-loading feature and the ARG I'll likely be playing tonight at midnight or sooner.

pre-ordered the PS3 version, got a $20 credit with it as well.

Also, the 360 looks to be the graphically weakest of the three.

I still feel like I'm getting ripped off though. I thought Portal 1 was okay, not anything special. Only reason I'm getting P2 is because my bro is obsessed with it and we going to do co-op together. Seriously I could have solved the puzzles in first grade, and valve even said they were making the game "more accessible", meaning easier.

Do you get those at the same time when in Steamworks?

The only reason I'd get Portal 2 for Xbox is if I could only play things on the Xbox, other than that, screw the Xbox for Portal 2, I got a PC that is ready and willing to play the game the right way.

Valve said themselves at E3 last year that PS3 will be the best version. So don't bother getting it for anything else.

PS3 trophies will unlock Steam achievments, but it won't work the other way around.

No, they said best console version.

I find it pretty lousy that you get the PC version with the PS3 version and the 360 version not only gets nothing, but is the weakest of the three with graphics, frame rate etc.
It should be cheaper because of that. Also whats with Steam coming to PS3 and not 360? At this stage we're paying $60 a year for a shittier service. Fuck this place.

Maybe you only own 360? Maybe more of your friends are getting it for 360 so you wanna play with them so you'd end up getting the 360 version?
For fucks sake OP. Everyone here fucking knows you just wanted to start something.

They tried to bring steamworks to the 360, but Microsoft literally wouldn't allow them to because then Valve could give free updates to their games. Microsoft likes to charge users for content that is free on other platforms.

Blame Microsoft for making a shitty console with a shitty service. Even the greedy fucks at Valve can't condone how inane Xbox Live is with it's monthly pay, constant ads and little-to-no free updates. And it's weaker than the PS3 and (obviously) the PC technically, so that must be where the technical problems are coming from.

Or maybe Valve just didn't give a shit.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa now. Xbox Live is in no way a shitty service, it's honestly the best out of the 3 console choices.

The monthly subscription fees help keep servers up and keep servers generally lag free.
World of Warcraft is just a single game with a £9 a month subscription, Xbox Live unlocks the possibilities of thousands of games for just £5 a month with savings if you buy 3/12 month packs. Just because Sony and Nintendo gives their stuff for free doesn't mean it's the better choice.

constant ads and little-to-no free updates.

Constant ads? Only if you're not a gold member which is fair.
Little to no free updates? It's the developers choice if they want DLC to be free or not. Not Microsoft's.

No it isn't. Microsoft forces free updates to be priced on XBL.

This is the same reason Valve just stopped updating their 360 games, they didn't want to release free content on PC and make the 360 users pay for it.

Well don't that beat all.
Either way calling the Xbox the worst platform just for trivial things such as paying for add-ons is a bit silly, even if other platforms get it for free, or if you have to pay for services. Every console has their ups and downs and in the end they're all as good as each other.

I buy like 99% of my games on xbox simply because the xbox is purpose-built to run the games, so I can guarantee they will run fast and lag-free. Even though I am building a PC which should be more than capable of handling Portal 2, I would still rather pay the extra £10 and get it on xbox as I prefer the controller to a keyboard and mouse. When I had portal 1 on pc, it would run at around 7FPS (admittedly on a 1.7GHz laptop) and the keyboard controls would make it nearly impossible to control. I still couldn't beat GLaDOS without cheats simply because of the lag and poor controls, but when I got it on xbox, I can complete the game in about 40 mins and beat GLaDOS in the first try.

As a customer, I feel like I'm getting kinda boned. My PC wont run Portal 2 respectably, and I own a 360 instead of a PS3. I want to buy Portal 2, but I want to avoid the 360 version as I for see issues with DLC pricing and update availability. Unfortunately, it's my only option until I track down a more powerful computer - which might not be for a while.
DAMN YOU, MICROSOFT. JUST PLAY THE FUCK ALONG ALREADY. D:

To be fair, I still have a few games to get through - AC:Brotherhood and Red Steel 2 to name two, so I really can't complain right now.

Fuck Microsoft. I'll just get the PC version even though I can barely run it.

Except Xbox is clearly the shittiest in this situation. We're paying the same price for the game, and a subscription to go with it and yet we get the least content and the lowest performance, and no steam support.

If MS didn't insist on being massive dicks all of the time we could have had cross platform mulltiplayer on all 3 platforms.

Um what? The lighting is different, but the PS3 version didn't even process shades! If anything the 360 version looks better.
