With Tampa Bay's 1-0 win to clinch the series tonight, all second round matchups are now set. They are as follows:
Western Conference:
1. Vancouver Canucks vs. 5. Nashville Predators
2. San Jose Sharks vs. 3. Detroit Red Wings
Eastern Conference:
1. Washington Capitals vs. 5. Tampa Bay Lightning
2. Philadelphia Flyers vs. 3. Boston Bruins
My predictions for the second round: Predators over Canucks, Sharks over Red Wings, Capitals over Lightning, and Flyers over Bruins.

But to no avail. Pittsburgh is shut out 1-0 by the Lightning in Game 7. Fun.
Aaaaaand buh bye Crosby.
So looks like I was perfect in my predictions for the East in the 1st round, and if it wasn't for the Canucks refusing to choke I would have been perfect in the West too. Anyway picks for Round 2:
Eastern Conference Semis:
1. Washington Capitals vs. 4. Tampa Bay Lightning
2. Philadelphia Flyers vs. 3. Boston Bruins
Western Conference Semis:
1. Vancouver Canucks vs. 5. Nashville Predators
2. San Jose Sharks vs. 3. Detroit Red Wings

Joke teams don't make it to the Stanley cup. Quit hating, even if The Flyers didn't win it they put up one hell of a fight.

Nah, even if you guys win the Cup, you'll always be jokes to me. That's the nature of a rivalry. Would you rather I kill the rivalry by not talking trash?

San Jose. I think they are taking the cup this year so obvious pick from me.
Eastern Conference:
1. Washington Capitals vs. 5. Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay. They showed a lot of tenacity in the first round against the penguins and I think it'll roll over into the second round.
2. Philadelphia Flyers vs. 3. Boston Bruins
Flyers. If their offense can keep rolling they'll do well against the Bruins.

Yeah, I just can't pick Vancouver to win anything else after the pitiful performances they put on against the Blackhawks. Even in game 7 where they utterly dominated the entire game, they still let in a shorthanded goal with a minute left in the game, and nearly lost it in overtime by giving away a power play. The only reason they're in the second round is because Campoli doesn't know how to clear a puck.
But in all seriousness, the Predators are a better team than the Blackhawks, and if Chicago gave Vancouver that much trouble, I don't see them getting past Nashville.

I've got Vancouver in 6, the Chicago series was a total wake up call, and now they are going up against a better team in Nashville. With that said, Nashville lacks in huge goal scorers and stars in general, and that's what will doom them. If Vancouver is worth their salt, then they won't drag their feet around like they did with the Blackhawks.
2. San Jose Sharks vs. 3. Detroit Red Wings
I got to go with the Red Wings in 7 games, San Jose is a very tough team, especially at the "Shark Tank.", but Detroit is much more experienced team, and if they can keep scoring goals and not taking silly penalties, then it's their series to lose. Vancouver may be the best team in the regular season, but in the postseason, you never bet against the Red Wings, you just don't.
Eastern Conference:
1. Washington Capitals vs. 5. Tampa Bay Lightning
Going with Washington in 5. Now that Washington is playing defense now compared to the past playoff teams, this makes them a very tough team for Tampa Bay to counter effectively. I'm saying 5 games with a little trepedation because the Lightning can make this a series, but they need to stay focused at all times, and score a lot of goals in the process.
2. Philadelphia Flyers vs. 3. Boston Bruins
I'm going with Philly in 6 games. I don't think that Boston has truly gotten over their 3-0 choke last year, and I do believe that Montreal rattled this team a bit, if only because Boston was supposed to take them down much eariler, and they had to hang on for dear life. The only thing that would scare my Flyers is the goaltending situation, but as long as they don't fuck up by giving up too many cheapies, they'll do just fine.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

My Predictions
Eastern Conference Semis:
1. Washington Capitals vs. 4. Tampa Bay Lightning
I really look forward to this matchup, and I'll keep an eye on this round. Washington will probably win but I have faith in the Lightning, so I'm going with Tampa Bay.
2. Philadelphia Flyers vs. 3. Boston Bruins
Oh boy... These two teams are gonna beat the tar out of each other for at least 6 games. Going with Philadelphia.
Western Conference Semis:
1. Vancouver Canucks vs. 5. Nashville Predators
Vancouver is awake, you don't lose three games in a row in the playoffs without someone lighting a fire under your ass. I've said it before, Nashville will give the Canuks a fight, but Vancouver comes out on top.
2. San Jose Sharks vs. 3. Detroit Red Wings
Revenge is sweet. Sharks look good but if my Wings stay out of the box, they have this one. Detroit wins this series.
Also, the NHL schedule makes little sense once again.
Second round timeframe?... uhh, durr, we can work that out tomorrow.

A ton of people picking the Flyers - I'm surprised.
Sure, a team can step it up in the playoffs - but haven't you guys seen how much this team has fallen apart during the last 1/3 of the season?

That's exactly why I'm picking them, they step it up in the playoffs. Sure they had a lackluster finish, but they're in the second round now against a team they match up very well against. They have a better power play that Boston, a better penalty kill, are a bigger team than the Bruins, and not to mention they have Pronger back now.
Look at what the Blackhawks did to the "mighty" Canucks; Vancouver goes up 3 games to none and everyone says it's a done deal, but then Chicago comes back and utterly embarrasses the supposed best team in hockey. The point is, it doesn't matter how a team finished the season, or how many points they had on the last day. They're in the playoffs, and all that is thus thrown out the window.
and don't forget, the Flyers had to win on the last day of the season last year (in a shootout, fittingly) just to get into the playoffs, then became only the third team in NHL history to win a series after being down 3-0, then made it all the way to the finals where the gave the Blackhawks all they could handle.

Sorry I'm late tonight! I've been busy with college work today. Tonight's game is game one of Predators-Canucks in Vancouver. The Canucks are currently up 1-0 about halfway through the third period.
come on Predators do me proud

very, very boring game. One of the worst i've seen in the playoffs, but maybe it's just because it was the first game.
Either way, I almost fell asleep. Apparently, so did Don Cherry

Man the Vancouver-Nashville series is really interesting. Vancouver is the top seeded high ranking team that's done so well this year and Nashville is a team that makes so much out of so litlte. Sure they got Legwand, Rinne, Tootoo, Fisher and Weaber but even without some of those guys they'd do so amazing. I gotta say I'm going for Canucks but if the Predators win I won't mind that one bit.

I'll have fun with that Sharks/Red Wings game. I think I'll be rooting for The Sharks just because I'm a huge fan of Niemi's even if he is the reason The Flyers lost The Stanley cup last year. He made some amazing and I mean amazing goalie saves. It would look like karma if BlackHawks had to watch The Sharks go to the Stanley cup this year. They got rid of one heck of a goalie.
