We all know that anti-profanity is complete and utter bullshit only a brain-addled shit-licker would advocate.
Because it puts the government in charge of telling people what words they can and can't use. WOW YEAH I REALLY WANT THAT. What a sweet deal. You get to pay a dumbfuck a full salary to screen license plates and keep a database of bad words?
There goes another 40-50k of our money down the drain to protect the feelings of adult babies with no concept of the world around them.
I mean, seriously, what would happen if my plate said "FUK OFF"? Oh, right, NOTHING. At worst, someone would vandalize your car, at which point you'd be legally required to break their legs with a crow bar. Win-WIn

People are way too easy to offend. I think we should have the right to put objectionable words on our license plates.
FUK OFF.

Fuck censorship. America has always had the right to free speech, and it always should. We need to start fighting for our rights to speak our minds how, and when we want.

So, yeah. Vanity plates are a privilege granted to us by the government. If you are so worried about the cost, how's about we save more money and just get rid of vanity plates all together?

They are worried about cost from the government, not cost from your own pockets, shit head.

I wonder... are you so much pissed off because this is genuinely stupid, or because you know there's no chance of it ever being overturned so that you can have your dream license plate?

note to self, never move to British Columbia. I'll stick here where i could put CHIKN or LUVGOD on my license plate if i damn well please. I'm sure if BC lifted the ban on those plates, they'd get a good million or 2 off the fees for them.

It's cheaper for the government to mass produce regular numbered plates, my loyal but not too learned subject.

Auctioning off wanted combos for plates could easily rasie the funds needed to censor to douchebags out there.

looooooooooool
Freedom of speech was intended to protect political debate, not to allow mindless libertinism. That is why we have concepts like "fighting words", which are not protected by the First Amendment.

So by what you're saying, every government is like North Korea because they don't like something. Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.
As for the subject at hand, the problem here is that people can be so easy to offend, just because of some choice words, {i.e fuck, damn, cunt, etc.} yet it still doesn't stop people on the street from yelling it at someone else or use it in casual conversation. Talk about government not getting their priorities straight, but we all know that much.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I think you feel a little to strongly about this. Will it hurt anyone? No. I don't have anything against you making your license plate "FUK OFF" if you want to. But what do you have to gain? Let's say you pull up to your new job and your boss sees that license plate. Won't send a good impression.
Plus, look at it from another side. If I was running a country, I wouldn't want people driving around with license plates that said "COCK LOLZ" or "CUNT ME" etc..
It's not something to get riled up over. Just have a normal license plate like a normal human being.

Yes B.C. is a shit province, with stupid rules that would make Orwell rollover in his grave, that said Quebec isn't much better, it is better but not by much.
I think the Yukon is probably the best place to live in Canada to be honest, I also very much like Manitoba because you can drink, fuck, smoke, and gamble at sixteen.
I guess you can smoke and fuck at sixteen in all of the other provinces too, but in Quebec the drinking age is 18, which is still better than B.C. which is 19.
I dislike the healthcare system in Quebec, along with the banking system there. From what I understand you can't open a bank account using the "good standing" criteria, not good for a paranoid like myself.
Plus Quebec is terribly corrupt, and has it's fair share of censorship issues too, or don't you recallt hat whole Karla movie ruckus a few years back?
Anyway that's enough Quebec bashing for one day...

I actually know why this is.
We live in a society that gives moral respect on a basis of an ability to feel pain. Why do we have animal cruelty laws? Because animals feel pain, and that ability to feel pain gives them certain moral rights.
By claiming to be pained by collections of words and symbols almost at random, people are able to receive greater moral respect without doing one positive thing for society in order to earn it.
What we need to do is change the way we give respect. If someone is easily offended, this is a weakness, and deserves disdain, not respect at all.

This is pretty inane, forbidding license plates to combat profanity. As far as profanity goes, a little is tolerable, but if I had a neighbour who ran down the street swearing loudly as if he's got Tourettes, i wouldn't be happy with him either.

Alright then, why ban "hateful language" here? I understand the reasoning to ban harassment, but why doesn't the same concept of dealing with the world go for NGers?

Wait, I might have not read the article thoroughly, but it seems like there isn't even any evidence that the guy even has swearing in his plate! This is moronic not because a plate was denied, but because there's no evidence it's even offensive! Why not ask this guy what it stands for? Besides, no one is ever going to even figure out what it means when they're on the road driving. No matter what a license plate says, just look away.

True story...
When I was in early elementary school I attended Sunday church service. And in the parking lot there was a car with the license plate " J I Z Z ". And I thought that was a cool word so I said it all the time, especially in front of adults who were strangely uncomfortable with me saying it.
.. and that is how I learned where babies come from.
