And an X thing...
That idea kinda rocks donkey balls! Do it...

mmm he/she/it could be right... there's quite a few flash movies/games that are just plain horrible and an X would help remove it quicker. I'm pretty sure there's alot of people that likes to go portal diving and 'clean up' the portal... getting rid of those crappy movies/games.
im all for the thumbs up/thumbs down idea, and like most i also favor the middle button. i think the X button should be kept for the offensive crap that occasionally appears.
Jolly nice idea, yes, yes, what, what, old chap.
But apart from that great idea, go for it!
i always use all the numbers if you were to remove the 1-4 what would i do when i like some parts but hate others i dont give it a 5 or 0 i give it something in the between
There should be three...middle finger(bad), thumbs down(neutral), thumbs up(good)
Please implement this new process! Also, don't give a middle ground, Thumbs Up/Down is sufficient. I think the problem users who want the middle ground are facing is that they relate Thumbs Down to giving it a 0 instead of looking at it like you just don't recommend it, and vice versa. This process may actually motivate average ranking submitters to put more effort into their work.
You should also replace the current Vote question with this one. Oh, you might want to put in "Maybe" as a choice for those middle ground users =)
While I've got your attention I'd like to know when we can expect to see those updated Pico pics.
it is a good idea i usually give a movie 0 or 5

What we've noticed is that a lot of users vote either 0 or 5 on movies, because they want to either raise or lower the score. People are igoring 1-4 because there are so many voters and you need to be extreme to make a difference in a movies score.
Sooo... What if we ditched the 0-5 system for a thumbs up / thumbs down system? Basically it would be a yay or nay, and we would calculate a score based on how many thumbs up for how many total votes. For example, if a movie has 10 votes, 6 being a thumbs up, it would have a score of 60%.
It would simplify the voting process and the results might actually end up being better... We could still track light and dark users based on their vote vs. the score... So if a movie has an 80% and someone votes against it, that would still count towards making them a darker user.
i say we try the new votes and go from there

Well, I think that there needs to be somthing in the middle, Sometimes some movies are good but not brilliant so there should be a Yay vote, A nay vote and a 'ok' vote. There definatly needs to be somthing in the middle.

I know I've been beaten to the joke but i'll do it anyway: AHH! I've been busted! seriously I like the idea. However I think you should a ok sign. ALthough if I see a movie which I think is average get a good score I try to drag it ddown and if I see average movie with a bqd score I try to drag it up (when I can be bothered. But your idea rocks

I think its a fantastic idea, but there should be a middle or "flat handed" vote as someone suggested.

Sounds good to me, I find myself casting votes at the extremes too often myself.

i think it's a great idea Tom you really got a point!
The thumbs up/thumbs down thing will accomplish absolutely nothing because the SAME lamers that vote for zeros and fives to raise and lower stuff will do the same with the thumbs up/down. It won't make any difference, except making the middle ground movies (2.5s) get NO exposure.
How about THIS, Tom. Like I suggested before, why don't you make the voting power directly correlate to your movie average. No offense, people, but those that DON'T MAKE FLASH MOVIES SHOULDN'T HAVE AS MUCH OR MORE VOTING POWER THAN THOSE THAT DO. Likewise, people who submit movies that constantly get 1s and 0's shouldn't have as much power as those that are in the three average.
Voting power should be determined by TASTE, and not how much you click a button. There's no way that some little 8 year old searching for porn and violence's vote should be worth more than razoric's for instance.
It all matters as to what you're trying to accomplish with this site. Voting power based on average movie rating would be the best way to ensure that the best flash movies are showcased. But it's not like you're going to listen to me anyway, so whatever.
I don't really think a new system woudl be a good idea. sure, when something ahs 6000 votes, 1-4 dosen't make a damned bit of a difference, but not like it matters. It's what you think. Not what the world thinks. Just my thoughts
I think you should have at least three choices. I'd still like to see neutral in the game.
Other than that its two thumbs fresh.
Couldn't We Have A Middle Thumbs As Well
I think this idea sucks. It gives the creator of the movie much more scope is he has an idea of how good/bad their movie is. We will end up with a lot of highscores as movies like mario vs sonic every1 likes just to different degrees. Anyway what do u do with the excistin entrys. Surely anyway it would be better for tom and the team to create another pico or somthin than wastin time fixin somethin that aint broke.
What does everyone think of this?
Well, I'm not sure, there are arguments eitger way. But, if you do decide to implement it, you should put in an average option (as many people have already suggested). Also, keep the X option (i think someone suggested a 'middle finger' option, though I may have misinterpreted that) for movies that are too offensive (or the author wants removed).
Just my opinion,
John_B
i think the voting system is pretty good now... some stuff is good but not quite 5, or bad but not quite 4... i don't see any point for having an x and a 0 though, tehy seem like the same button to me

I think this a brilliant idea. I personally do use the 1-4 votes aswell as the 0, and 5 although i don't use the 0 and 5 that often. I think also you should add somehting where it incourages the peolpe to submit decent movies. Such as the higher score your movie gets the more experience points you get after certain milestones etc. This would be great and people would gain more experience rather than the usual 10. + it would see the portal have alot more professional animations and games rather than some of the crap there is on it today.
Just my comments

Agreed! Just because I gave my first 10 to Xiao Xiao #3 means that I like it at all anymore (which I don't)

Exactly... there should be:

There has to be middle grounds... the all or nothing is gonna get abused like crazy. A lot of people's hard work will get trashed because: "well that movie rocked, but the sound got on my nerves 'THUMBS DOWN'"
You have to give people a 'middle' button to push if they thought the movie was flawed in a way but not worth the 'thumbs down' button.
Yeah, what he said.

I think that a thumb up/thumb down system would be a very good idea.
