I encountered a Deathclaw Apr. 5th, 2011 @ 03:05 PM Reply

So I started a new character on Fallout 3, when I left the Vault, I headed left and quickly ran into some Outcasts, who were roasting a bloatfly with a flamer. I then turn around and I come across a freaking Deathclaw, at level 2, right outside the entrance to Vault 101.

Im like WTF, that has never happened before to me.

Has something like happened to anyone?

Nope. Of course, I got Fallout 3 yesterday so that was the expected answer.

Are you stupid? Stats don't matter at that level, you'd die with the game set to very-easy and with an endurance of 10.

It's just a random encounter, of which there are about 500 IIRC.

Fallout 3 was very unforgiveable when you wandered into the areas it doesn't want you too at certain levels. I encountered my first deathclaw at level 6 as a designated random encounter where an injured one is chasing a lone wastelander. It had only 20% of its health and one of its legs were crippled, so my pistol was enough to take care of it. It's lame that I encountered a Deathclaw at all because I was just trying to cross the River into the DC area (later learning that you need to take the Metro links). I was on the first serious story mission that was much harder than it needed to be.

I usually frequent the VG and collaboration Forums. If you find me anywhere else, I'm lost and can't find my way back.

Is your game modded by chance?

Cheating? I like to call it strategic opportunity.

I agree with you. That was probably my least favorite part of Fallout 3.

Yeah. I don't really care for it. I've beaten dozens of games in a matter of days. But I mat my match with Fallout 3.

Am I the only one who prefers Deathclaws over Giant RadScorpions?

I mean once you get the dartgun, which is rather easy if you gun for it IMO, Deathclaws become less of a nuisance, but those damn Giant Radscorpions, those haunt my dreams.

Yeah, but I was right outside Vault 101, and it was a full health Deathclaw. Good thing those Outcast were near by, so they got killed instead of me and I finished the thing off. Now I have a flamer.

Yes, but there's no Dart gun in New Vegas. And If you get that game you will fear the Cazadors, a lot.

That is why I prefer the PC version of Fallout 3 and New Vegas over the console versions, mods, mods, and mods galore. In other words someone had imported the Dart Gun from FO3 and placed it into FO:NV.

Oh and I hated the Cazadors, even with strong weapons they were a pain in the ass. Hordes of those bad boys were probably the only thing I ever used the Eulics C-Finder on.

Yep. When I encountered mine (at level 2 as well) it was in front of the Super Duper Mart. It was weakened, and had just finished murdering a Wastelander. Thankfully its health was incredibly low after fighting the Wastelander, so I didn't have too much trouble finishing it off. Also, I found Deathclaw Gauntlet schematics of the Wastelander's body. It seemed too coincidental to be "just some occurrence" so I assume it was a Random Event.

No.

I fucking hated those things in New Vegas. Goddamn. They were all over Scorpion Gulch, being all scorpion-y and shit.

something kind of like that happened to me. i get got out of the vault and i started to wander of in some random direction. i came across a town. so i start to walk around and then i fall into a pit that i did not notice at all. so i went into the door. and inside was a huge maze filled to the brim with death claws. i had to start a new game after that.

Like the first time I left megaton on my way to the mall for the book research stuff, I decided to take the quest about fire ants in the subway tunnels.

Geez

that pretty much ruined me

That is actually the very same encounter I had. All though I went to the place the treasure map told me about and found only minor loot and few mirelurks. Not really worth your time. Still pretty interesting that they threw this miniquest at me. I wouldn't have explored that area otherwise.
