Tell that to the US debt.
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.

Torrents are mostly used for linux distributions and other legitimate software.
Anyone using it for music and movies is batshit dickfucked.

How is a defunct web company going to pay damages that total more than the gross domestic output of Bolivia?
Your opinion is wrong.

Guess that article is addressed to the mentally handicapped.
I'm glad someone pointed that out, I was reading the article and stopped at that point, if they don't assume you know what a trillion is, then I'm going to assume the rest of the article was written for 2 years old's and not waste my time.
Piratebay + frostwire = avoiding the lawsuit.
Because online media converters don't exist.
75 trillion? Holy shit. Calm your tits, music industry.
I feel sorry for people who bought limewire pro, freakin sucks.
all about the torrents

I never used Limewire but damn, that's pretty intense. However, no matter the damages, some people need to roll their eyes and stick then with reasonable, if not fair, charges. You can't expect Limewire to just randomly have $75,000,000,000,000 up their sleeve.

journalists, they always need fillers.

75 trillion, would you like them to mine out crystals out of a asteroid too? That's just amazing, and thankfully the judge agrees...though that isn't going to save Limeware from some sort of ridiculous fine even though they weren't even selling the songs, they just offered people a sharing program which other people tended to use for downloading music.
I used Limeware for years before it got shut down, only downloaded one virus once and it didn't last long. You can tell the difference between an infected file and a non-infected file just by the filesize alone, let alone scanning it before hand.
The article, though by some comments looks to be made for children, is an eye opener as just how stupid the music industry really is. They don't seem to comprehend that this will achieve nothing as where Limeware fails thousands of other programs and apps have already kicked off. Just look at anyone with a MP3 player; easily upwards of 99% of all songs on those devices were "illegally" downloaded. Lol
Didn't LW cease to exist a while back?

Seriously, how the fuck do they expect them to pay them? "You are to chop down 1000000 logs by the end of the day with a rusty old hatchet."
Agreed. I always thought it was funny the difference in punishments for people involved in piracy related activities, as opposed to lets say pedophiles. You can molest a kid and get probation, but downloading music will get you huge fines and put away for a couple of years.
Makes sense to me.

Yup, but the resulting fall out of lawsuit action and the mess that is trying to achieve a realistic award figure has dragged the legal side out for a number of years.
In this case, the Judge has intelligently decided that awarding more then the GDP of the world would be stupid. The Plaintiffs are trying to get the maximum damages award for a single infraction and get it multiplied not just by each song copyright infracted, but for every time that infraction was made (every time that song was downloaded)
That's where the $75 trillion comes from. The judge is looking at one award per song infracted, which will still add up to a large sum of money when there's over 10,000 of them proven to have been 'pirated'.

I thought everyone stopped using Limewire by 2006
It would be funny if they actually PAYED all the money...in cash.
That would cause an even bigger crisis lol.
Lol fucking 75 trillion dollars
Who thinks Lars Ulrich has something to do with this? lol
Anyways, there are many sites where you can convert youtube videos to just audio mp3s that sound just as good as if it were downloaded by limewire or what ever.
mp3 converters are the future.
