4.07 / 5.00 13,902 ViewsI've got this STRANGE problem with the Brush tool and the Line tool.
With the Brush tool, I can adjust the Smoothing only, but NOTHING else. Not the stroke height, scale, NOTHING. It just shows up as a faded grey color and won't let me select it.
Then, there's the Line tool. When selected, I can adjust the stroke height, scale, and everything...EXCEPT the freak'n Smoothing!
Honestly, I should be able to control all aspects of my drawing capabilities, and NOT being able to do so is frustrating me to all hell.
Back when I used Flash 7 or 8 (it was years and years ago) I was able to do anything I wanted. I've tried brushing up (even more than I already have) on current Flash functions...but...I'm basically stumped.
Can anyone help me out? It would be much appreciated.

This isn't CS5 related.
The brush tool and pencil tool were built differently, they have different options. The width of the lines created with the pencil tool can be adjusted in the properties panel, the width (and form) of the strokes created with the brush tool can be adjusted in the tools panel (at the bottom).
Lines created with the pencil tool are smoothed for 50%, if you want more, press the smooth button in the tools panel.
Also, there are lots of extra options when you go Modify > Shape
I've used Flash 8, CS4 and CS5 and it's the same for all of them.

Thanks for the Brush size tip. I didn't see that down there.
BUT, the smoothing issue still remains. Even when I turn the smoothing all the way down to zero, it still smooths my brushstrokes.
And, with the Pencil tool: Same problem. The advanced smoothing menu doesn't have anything close to an "Don't smooth my lines, I actually want them to remain pixellated" option. (I'm paraphrasing, of course, but the situation remains as it is).
Hmmm...I'm going to keep fumbling about internet tutorials and whatnot. Thanks for the important tips so far.
Oh, and what do you mean "This isn't CS5 related."??? I'm using Flash CS5. I don't know how much more CS5 related I can be...
