LOL you can't be a hipster and a nerd though, it's a total contradiction, and besides liking a specific genre in music doesn't define who you are, hell I listen to all types of music really, but I am having an odd craving for acoustic and mellow :D

I probably know more then you think. You are just stereo-typing and it isn't necessary because you can't stereo-type on someone you don't even know purely because they ask about a genre of music. All I'm attempting to do is avoid the main-stream and find new awesome unique bands that aren't afraid to be different.

Fionn Regan (what Jeff Mangum would be if he had been around a few decades earlier and had more talent)
Akron/Family (acoustic Animal Collective ripoff)
Angels of Light (see above, except this one has Michael Gira)
Molasses (dark folk)
Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat (dark folk/neofolk)
Rome (neofolk)
The Maldives (alt-country/indie rock)
Kid Dakota (indie drone...? somewhere between Boris and Radiohead)
Mew (progressive indie rock)
Secret Machines (space rock, whatever the hell that means)
Mogwai (post-rock)

Um, no. "Indie" is the "alternative" of the '00s: it just doesn't mean much of anything anymore. It just so happens that there's a lot of hipster music out these days.
