Not really. I think the events going on sure are feeding into the fear, but overall this is just a series of unfortunate events. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure one article mentioned its been 16 years since we had a earthquake of this magnitude, meaning its happened before.

I believe either Earth is trying to cleanse itself or we are just going through one of the many cycles existing in our reality.
