Sound Before or After? 2011-03-07 15:47:55 Reply

Just wondering on how many of you put in sound effects before of after the animation is finished?

Before is when you have the sound effect and you put it in then draw the animation to match up with it.

After is when you already have the animationa and you edit the sound to match up with it.

Also for a side note If anyone wants to say you put in the sound during the animation that can also stand for the "before" choice.

I have been trying to make it a habbit to do it after I animate, I think it comes in better and editing the sounds are easyier then animating to the sound.

I don't have any good sound editors. So, it's way easier to animate to the sounds.

So you're saying if you're animating a fight scene, you put in all the punches/kicks THEN you animate to them? Sounds over-complicated. Why not just animate then put in the sounds where you want?

It actually depends on the situation.
If you're animating to a soundtrack, or lipsynching, then you would obviously put the sound in first.
If it's just a scene that has some sound effects for certain actions, then you add them in after.

Not sure on who your asking but thats what I do, I put the sound effects in after. And to the other post I agree Music has to go in first.

voices always while animating the mouth
Music only if really necessary before
not too important SFX and other Music when I feel like it; just after animating the shot
And after Exporting and Editing adding all the remaining SFX and Music
