May he rest in peace. I thank him for serving his country and helping to end that horrid and senseless war.

Then the Korean Vets, and then the Vietnam vets (who shall not be missed).

I've encountered the same topic on other forums outside of NG.
Best that this OP could do was "Damn he was old."

What should have been a fight between two nations exploded into a war that involved every continent on the globe. This is why I think military interventionism and alliances is a bad thing. It is like how two kids are supposed to fight, but then their buddies start fighting to until you have 10 kids on each side.

I think you should credit the WW2 vets with that, seeing the way how the first world war ended.

I don't get what you are saying. Explain please? I assumed the first world war ended with and obvious defeat of the Central Powers. Or were you referring to something else?

It's going to be strange to hear the same thing about WWII.
It'll probably be in about 2030 when we hear about that, though.

It wasn't that obvious, Germany was still kicking France's ass by holding many territories and so on, yet, they were exhausted, but so was everyone else, in Europe anyways. They agreed to end the war by the peace offer the US proposed which was pretty much a "no one loses" thing. But then France and England decided to blame everything on the Germans which led to the Treaty of Versailles.
But this isn't a thread about the outcome of WW1 anyways..

Speaking of kids, I find it really weird that the royal families of Britain, Germany and Russia were all related to each other because of Queen Victoria. As for the war itself, it was probably the stupidest conflict ever, in terms of how it was fought. Basically, the armies were fighting over mere miles of land at a time, and the vast majority of the time, both sides were stuck in the trenches firing just about everything at each other.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I really hope that all war veterans write down their stories, so that when they die, their memories will live on.
I love reading and hearing about those old war stories.
May he rest in peace.

It is great that you are acknowleding things like this. We really have to take notice of all the people in our armed forces throughout the years.
May this man rest in peace.

I wonder how many WWII vets are still out there. I know a 101 year old WWII vet. He helped to free France and France recently awarded him a medal.

Very impressed. I can't help but notice his extreme desire to serve his country. At the age of 16??? Wow! That's awesome every 16 year old male that I know will not even think about it.
You may now rest in peace and may you live forever in the hearts of your fellowmen.

WW1 vets are a dying breed.
While they'll be gone one day, they'll never be forgotten.

Granted the one in 1959 was disputed due to the problem with the birth year.
The undisputed one was 1956.
