different responses

I noticed something very strange. Sometimes on a thread a person will post some random response.
Than on a similar thread they may contradict their other response. I dont understand the purpose of this.
Is there a specific reason?

Im interested because sometimes people completely contradict their selves for no apparant reason.

Some people won't read the whole thread or they may read part of a post and then post something sporadic based on that post.
