I must put my own words in here.
I'm only going to talk about consoles that I can remember. Even Nintendo was made three years before I was born. I still played NES anyway, but I've obviously never played any Atari so I can't say how successful or fun that was.
I saw one reply, don't remember who, said that NES was unsuccessful. Maybe it would be unsuccessful if you released it TODAY. But back then, those weren't "crappy graphics". They weren't the best, but they were good. The vast collection of games, hundreds? thousands?... anyway, it was one of the most successful consoles of its time.
Super Nintendo was a hit, but it seems to be caught between the more popular NES and N64.
The N64 was popular, and everone played it, we'll all remember that three-handle controller, but now looking back it doesn't look so successful. Everyone hates it, looking back and thinking "holy shit, cartridges?!?" and for a 64 bit graphic system, it was bad. The Playstation had better graphics in some cases.
The Playstation, by the way, and the playstation 2, are probably the most successful, seeing as how the whole PSX thing haven't been around very long.
Sega was great back in the day, but Sega Dreamcast didn't sell well. I really don't know why. It was a good console.
XBOX and GCN are new, I can't comment on that. But I think of the three competing consoles now, PS2 and XBOX are more successful than GCN, judging by the attitude of the world and especially this forum who thinks "Kiddy" when they see a cube. But Nintendo isn't dead yet.
Ok, that's all.
