Game Jam 3, Broadcasting Today

Because Game Jam 3 team announcements are tonight at 9pm via live broadcast, I've decided to bump our "usual" Friday broadcast up a day this week. The broadcast will start at 3pm EST. We'll spend the afternoon browsing the depths of NG, followed later tonight with the 9pm unveiling of IdeaTron, a robot that literally craps out game ideas for the game jam teams.

The original plan was to force a theme on each team, but to give the teams a better chance to get something they like, we might instead just crap out ideas one at a time, and the first team to call an idea in the chat will get dibs. If any teams hold out for too long or don't show up, they might just end up with a forced assignment or a set of three to pick from. This game jam was especially short notice, so it would be awesome if more people joined up. You will have from tonight until 11:59pm EST Sunday to complete your games!

This is where the live broadcast will be, starting 3pm EST unless we start sooner.

(i sort of agree with jacksmacks response to your post on his wall - - these themes could force games to be very specific - - maybe if there were less words involved...hmmm)

The themes people posted in that thread were used to harvest words for IdeaTron - so he won't spit out those exact themes at random but instead will spit out random combinations of the words used in those themes. After some testing, a number of the words were removed and additional words have been added to the pool, in an attempt to give the themes more potential.

JackSmack is right though, this might be more limiting than we'd like it to be... I think it's still worth a shot for this game jam. If everyone ends up hating it we won't do it again. :)
