I always used to prefer the frame by frame style but recently i prefer content, pacing and editing quality over the movement, tweening everything as an animator makes it easier in many ways to be consistent and allows you to put out more animation.
But frame by frame is just so pretty... it looks rookie pretty easily though, unless you're pro at it, it'll look pretty wobbly.
What do you guys think?
I use tweening (now) very rarely because I just don't have a use for it in animation. In making animations for games.. well, motion tweening objects makes them easy to switch out to make a 'new' character using an existing "shell".
It's a tool. A useful one at that.
I dont lean either way. i mix it up! sometimes i want a movement shown a certain way so i decide if it'll look better tweened or FbF'd . Its all preference in the end if your good at either, the animation will turn out good.
Well good fbf is better than good tweening. But bad tweening is better than bad fbf.
But newgrounds viewers don't care either way, they just want you to be funny.
I generally tween a lot of stuff, because it's easier. I would prefer to use fbf because it looks better.
I enjoy watching fbf stuff if it's done well. But tweens can be good too, if the art is amazing and the tweens are done right. I think tarboy had a fair share of tween.
I'm pretty sure any movies I make from now on are going to be mostly fbf.
Although tweening will always be the obvious choice for static objects moving and camera movements, and stuff.
I only tween for slow motion, but sometimes I even do slow motion FBF.
I only tween "nothing happens" scenes, like scrolling backgrounds. I usually prefer watching frame by frame animations too, but there are exceptions of course like Edds cartoons since he uses a good mix.
How about cpu overhead though? How does it relate to both styles? I think frame by frame animation is easier on the cpu usage, am I right?
fbf is easier on the cpu than tweening if all the things are broken down, i.e into shapes...

Yeah. as long as the end product comes out well, it doesnt matter if you tweened or FbF'd
Both together>>>one alone from my experience.

Frame by frame is most definitely better. It gives it a much more lively feel, it's less mechanic and constricted than tweening. Although tweening is nice to use for simple scrolling effects and stuff of that sort.
i do a combination of both. for long movements, i use tween. for short small movements i use frame by frame
