It's hard for some people to respect something they find totally idiotic or ridiculous. Personally, I don't think the fetish is "Weird" I think these people take themselves too seriously. Furries aren't political, academic, or scientific group with any sort of goal. Nor do I find them to be serious artists. The majority of it's pornography. I've never seen a furry artist make a piece that, for example, says something about the Animalistic Nature of Mankind; nor have I ever seen one that expresses a belief that we are much closer then we believe to other species; or anything celebrating the beauty and diversity of life on Earth.

On to the OP, Because some people are too brainwashed by the media to understand it from one of the furry artist's view (in fact a lot of artists arnt furs to begin with), and becuase like someone else before me said; making fun, hatin, flaming, or bashing on furs is a band wagon sorta thing. You just stated the answer to your own statement. The "different" people provoke the bullying by setting themselves out in one way or another. Believe it or not, bullies get made fun of, too. And the people who get bullied? They make fun of another group of people. That other group of people makes fun of another group of people. It's all just one cycle of bullying. Everyone gets made fun of, just to a different degree.

There is not one single person in this world that completely accepts every single different thought, fetish, hobby, or like that floats around them, and they poke fun at the things that don't interest them. Zero tolerance rules will never change anything. Schools don't see this.

What I like is made fun of and ridiculed. I am a nerd when it comes to computer programs, and I practically eat music of different variations. I sit with other nerds who like card games such as MTG. We are nerds. Hell, we used to get ice cubes thrown at us every day because the people I sat with played MTG in school. But, we didn't run to a teacher. We didn't complain. We ignored it, and went on with our lives. They eventually figured out that they couldn't get a reaction out of us, and they left.

People look for a reaction. If you give them that reaction, that argument that they want, they will keep doing it. If it's just verbal abuse, ignore it, and get on with your life. Now, if someone's actually physically beating on you and pushing you around, don't just take it. Fight back. Even if you do lose the fight, they will know that you will fight back if they shove you.
