3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsWell, it doesn't exactly suck, but it's very boring to watch that I find it surprising some Americans can be obsessed with it.
I've only seen a tiny bit of it, but pretty much as soon as some one gets the ball, The WHOLE entire team tackles him. Seriously, Why does the WHOLE damn team have to tackle one person with the ball.
It looks fun to play I guess, But still boring to watch and it's very repetitive as well.
It's either because I've grown up watching football like Australian Rules football and the British type of football or Americans just have a bad taste in sports.
Now you must stay away! I think football and most other sports suck.
1.Football
2.Rugby
and then whatever Americans play.

Somebody needs to relax a tiny bit and stop trying to fight the world.
I honestly use sports as a brief time where I can forget how rotten humanity is and just let my depresion and anxiety sleep for a while.

Any excuse to get together is a good one.
I do this with COD, me and my friends all get together and drink beer, shouting at the TV when we're not the ones playing and have a great time.
Its called socialising, you should try it.

Sadly, this is so true it hurts. My Grandfather's funeral attracted a tonne of people who barely knew him. They all came along with other people who had explicit invites, and as a large family anyways we let them in.
Shame they took liberties in draining us out of food and alcohol within the first 2 hours of the wake, but that's the Celtic life for you.

if you watch football, or any sport, you're a fat ass. Play it your damn self instead of watching hot sweaty muscular men caressing balls throughout the arena

I could never really get into the game itself. Sure, it's fun as hell to go to a game (I'm talking high school football) and you're with your friends and the atmosphere is so pumped up and shit, but I could never actually sit and watch the game.
But once, at halftime, a guy in a giant penis suit ran out. Someone even got it on video.
To be honest most American sports suck. Before I go on let me just say this I dislike cricket too before you think I'm one of those type of Brits.
Take baseball for example. We play that here, as Rounders in Pe class when we're 13. It's dull as fuck really. Good for 45 minutes for a quick chat with friends when you're on the field and alright when you're batting and manage to hit the ball far. I don't get though how a public could get so excited over the exact same thing happening over again.
Then there is Basketball which seems to be, whicher team has the ball will 'score' with it. Team A has the ball, dribbles a bit, passes once or twice, then scores. Team B then has the ball, dribbles a bit, passes once or twice, then scores. Rinse and repeat. Forever.
American Football I will just never understand. It's rugby in padding with a few different rules (like forward passing). It is a bit more tactical which is something at least but then it gets ruined by the incredible amount of commercials they seem to throw in. That's not fun when you're trying to watch a sport.
It's actually a shame that Americans don't care about the most popular sport in the world. If they actually gave more interest into football (soccer) then no doubt they could put together a class act of footballers and compete with the worlds greatests. They have the man power to do it, just not the interest which is a shame because it is truly a superior sport. Just ask the world.
Well that is one man's opinion, but I think football sucks.
Now it's 3 men's opinions!

Rugby/American Football is for men with strength.
Soccer is for Asians.

Something tells me that you've never watched a game of Rugby Football Union then. That's a brilliant display of brutal harmony (except for the Italy - Ireland match last weekend) and it's a great spectacle, even in the cold - I'm off to watch Worcester Warriors play London Welsh tomorrow at Sixways and I'm going to enjoy it.

To counter this, I'm an Englishman that also loves his baseball, ice hockey and basketball, alongside things like cricket and rugby.

In rounders at school, I never got enough chances to hit. I'd usually belt the first or second pitch I saw and then run around, not getting another chance, before we had to switch sides. The same can be said for cricket at school, because they don't teach it right.
Then there is Basketball which seems to be, whicher team has the ball will 'score' with it. Team A has the ball, dribbles a bit, passes once or twice, then scores. Team B then has the ball, dribbles a bit, passes once or twice, then scores. Rinse and repeat. Forever.
You don't watch. Steals, blocks and misses count for a lot, plus when you've got a kid on your school team that stands 6' 7, you can pretty much win anything.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Super Bowl broadcast on the BBC last week and sat there thinking "I have no idea what is going on", so I went to bed.
It's actually a shame that Americans don't care about the most popular sport in the world.
They do, that's the thing. There is one sport in America that gets more spectators than MLS and that is NASCAR. It's the American Media that tries to stifle football's influence on America and therefore the world.
If they actually gave more interest into football (soccer) then no doubt they could put together a class act of footballers and compete with the worlds greatests. They have the man power to do it, just not the interest which is a shame because it is truly a superior sport. Just ask the world.
Tell that to the Aussies. They are as a nation fanatical about sport and have dominated the world of Rugby (both codes) and Cricket. They aren't a particularly big football nation, but if they put their minds to it, they could make it big.

So why is that fat bastard "The Freezer" playing in the NFL then? You compare him to the number 8 in Rugby Union, who is 6' 6+, weighs about 20-22 stone (280 - 300 lbs) and can run with the ball, driving a pack of men a long way down the pitch, without having to wear a shedload of body armour.
Soccer is for Asians.
Then why has an Asian nation never won the World Cup? How about South Americans and Europeans, who have won all of the world cups.
Oh, I get it, you were being racist. Once more and you're done, this is my only warning.
I can't be bothered to reply to everything Coop. Just want to say Football imo is the best sport for excitment, tactics, individual and team effort, and yeah. Followed by Tennis. Tennis needs more support. Those players are just super.
I just want to make a point about Rounders. I liked it in school but being left handed made it a nightmare for me. Whenever I did manage to hit the ball I ALWAYS knocked it nicely towards first base, usually within inches of the Base 1 player. Sucked.
And pfft Netball > Basketball.
Tennis is the only sport that deserves to be liked... because I play it.
I really think it should be called Hand-egg, but that's not the point, everytime I watch American Football I can't help but see a less action packed version of Rugby played by people who are scared to get hurt...oh and yes I love cricket, I'm actually a qualified umpire, and I am not ashamed by that.
Let me kill your thread for you, it wasn't all that interesting anyway.

Have to say, Coop's raised a lot of good points.
Still, I'm not sold on American Football, love my Rugger a bit too much (Coop, I'm totally jelly you get to watch the London Welsh play, they're my team :'( just don't have the time to get over there)
Baseball is actually pretty interesting to watch, especially old footage back when steroids were rampant. Seriously, the distances these guys hit was breathtaking, but alas drugs are not fair, safe or sportmanlike so the mass bannings were completely justified.
My personal review of American sports in brief:
American Football: Huh? It's like Rugby, but made more overly complicated. I get the body armour, however, as unlike Rugby it looks like you're allowed to send people literally flying. I think I'd want padding and helmets, even as a former Rugger player. Regardless, I don't enjoy it.
NASCA: I enjoy it, I love motor sports. Some people say an oval track is boring because there's no cornering, but it is actually quite skill intensive with the added bonus of crazy crashes. Unlike F1 back in its heyday, NASCAR has tighter limits on engine and car builds, meaning it comes down almost purely on driver skill and finely tuning car settings.
Indy: Formula one rebranded, love it simply because it's an additional F1 fix.
Basketball: Meh, not a fan but I don't dislike it. Each to their own.
Drag Racing: Speed thrills for adrenaline junkies. I fucking love it. Especially the rocket car racing :O!!!!!
Baseball: I casually watch it, older footage is more interesting to watch, but I used to be a big fan of Japanese baseball teams.

Personally I don't find car events be be sports. I can't understand whats' exciting about watching cars go round and around and around the same track about 80 times. Sure, it's fun when there is a crush, but besides that the only exciting part is the beginning when anyone could take the lead.

Either you need to watch more motor sports, or you don't 'get it'. The last part isn't a criticism btw, some people will never get motor sport appeal.
In F1 nowadays, in Indy and especially in Superbike and NASCAR, the excitement coms from drivers blocking overtake moves, someone taking a great line on a corner and under/overtaking from nowhere or a driver coming from 10th place and winning, or coming podium, from literally nowhere with only 5 laps to go.
F1 is the only real culprit of 'first past the line lap 1 wins or gets podium' culture, mostly because in the 90's-early 00's the teams with the biggest budgets were given freedom to build the better cars. Now, F1 has taken a page out of NASCAR regulations and really tightened its game up. Teams like Force India (super peasant in the F1 world) were able to put in better then 15th positions for the first time 2 seasons ago, and Red Bull Racing is making leaps and bounds against the old guard of Ferrari and Mclaren. F1 is slowly becoming a skill race, and I hope soon it'll once again be the premier world racing event it once was.

Opinions, that is all. Like what you like I dont give a fuck, everyone to their own. Wouldn't it be boring if we all watched one sport?
No, you're right Skeleton, it's likely a case of me 'not getting it'. I usually watch F1 every sunday at work when the season is back on. Its out of habit really as we have a tv in the office, no freeview and at least there is something to watch, even if I don't enjoy it much. So I've seen a fair few races myself. I fail though to see the things you have seen during a race. Cars are just something I'll never get the great appeal of maybe.
Believe me I'm no american I LOVE making fun of american football like any other respected european but like with any sport it isn't the game itself but all the friendship and love it sheds I believe. I mean just think about how many friends, families get together to watch the superbowl? But yeah, if you look at it literally and bluntly then it's just that - Dude runs with ball to other side dudes trample him.
I though that too until yesterday! I met a few people in the park, and they asked me to play. Yes, I did end up wrecking my leg, but it was still very fun.
