Personally, since my fleet was destroyed a few days ago, my focus has been on rebuilding that. Actually thought it would take a week to do so and I'm already basically at the level I was at when I was attacked. I figure though that once my fleet is big enough (which it will be very soon) I'll be attacking other live players for a chance at bigger resources which will lead to upgrading mines etc etc.

So your strategy has been to put anI personally invest it into things that can't be destroyed like research and mines. I also fleetsave even when I'm online to avoid detection.
yes it shows a crapload that he destroyed - however all of it was automatically rebuilt due to the 70% factor., so I only ended up actually losing 2 heavy lazers and one ion cannon. That is small fry to restore.
As for my strategy - minimal defenses - so small shield large shield and a couple of each type of defense - most of my resource go into indestructibles like research and mines - thus if stuff gets destroyed my rank does not get affected at all.
I think prinzy started to adopt my own strategy after I sorta laid it out for him - stupid me.. now he's nipping at my heels hahaha :P
also whenever I get a ship destroyed I always replace it with double, so my fleet slowly increases that way.
I also keep enough cargo ships collectively so that I can spirit stuff away if need be. The turtle miner strategy is not to be taken lightly. If you are vigilent it ensures that you will never lose anything massive, ever.
And well.. look at my rank.. I signed up a feel wek after most of you and yet it's still holding - and I attack active players all the time, even ones in large alliances.
