The popular music genre is Dance as far as I know; one of the least musical of the genres.

Before anyone trolls, I say Dance is one of the least musical because there isn't nearly as much variety as there is in shred metal, rock, hair medal, and even grunge.

Makes me wonder why the general population is gearing towards the simple, mind numbing music over the previous, more complex, you-could-tell-they-were-creative music.

Discuss.

Dance is definitely epic, dude.

But country seems fitting IMO.

It's one of them, maybe.

Why hello, hip-hop music, we don't want you hear. This is whitey territory.

Sometimes it's about the craft more than it is about the art, you know?

I have an idea... stop caring about what other people listen to. Other people are retarded and it does you no good to care.

That's what I am doing...

But when people play pop on the radio all the time, it's hard to ignore.

Top 40 radio isn't the only radio station available, my friend.

I know, but Everywhere I go I hear nothing but "You... Make... Me... Feel unbelievable." and similar beats throughout different songs.

The only place I can give my ears and my brain a rest from mind numbing is through my cds and ipod, but sometimes I don't have either one, and I am tortured because of it.

and if it isn't the radio, it's the talk about pop music at school that bugs me.

if you children knew the amount of effort it takes to produce a hit pop song then you wouldn't be so conscending towards the genre

watch a behind the scenes of a pop producer, will gregory of goldfrapp or william orbit working with madonna (i know they're out there and i've seen in the past)

you will see

You ever heard of Steve Vai?

Check him out, then we'll talk about the difficulty.

Also, I forgot to put Hip Hop in the list of those other metal variants, Along with pretty much any non electronic repitition genre (besides techno, trance, dance, etc.)

Isn't that song decades old? Maybe I'm thinking of a different song.

Also, you need to listen closely. It's rarely the same beat between songs in pop music. Even after decades of the same pop music over and over again (looking at you, 80s), it doesn't take a trained ear to notice such differences.

In my opinion, of course. I don't consider my ears trained.

The only place I can give my ears and my brain a rest from mind numbing is through my cds and ipod, but sometimes I don't have either one, and I am tortured because of it.

My mind would be just as numb if I listened to your music, I'm sure. No reason to be tortured by it heh.

and if it isn't the radio, it's the talk about pop music at school that bugs me.

Who says you have to pay attention? At all? Even if it goes on everywhere you go, it doesn't take much to drown it out to where it's an indecipherable buzzing in the background. Don't let it get in your head. Don't let it bother you.

...Also, I read this as a "talk show about pop music at school." I was about to question you. I wanted one of those.

Dance can be various if it wants to be. People just make the same damn thing, and you aren't looking hard enough.

Dude, you could be a genius who studies the history of music for all I know. I don't care what music you know about.

I'm stating my opinion about the current pop music I've heard. It may be different for you. You may have your own opinion about music, but this isn't about a good argument between who's right and who's wrong. This is a discussion about current pop music.

You do see the increible hypocrasy right?

Anyway, on a different note.

Just because something is hard to do doesnt make it art.

If I paint a really good painting of a shoebox, its still just a picture of a shoebox.

Dance is better than any other genre I've heard by miles. I don't know where you get that it is repetitive from when it isn't.

Besides, Lady GaGa has more artistry and creativity in her cunt lips than the vast majority of us.

Basically anything with good rhythm. Whatever, my interests vary.
i like rock....or whatever this sub-genre is called
chiptunes
classical/movie sountrack/orchestra (favorite part is 0:57)
more classics
rock
i guess it all comes down to good rhythm and good lyrics. instead of the same 3 beats over and over again and "shake dat' ass show me what ya working with!.....Shawty!" in every song. Maybe thats why i don't like much rap. But there is hope....with SOME rappers (mainly from Britain)

I'm just a dreamer.

i think pop sucks.

the music i listen to has no singing in it, i only listen to electronic genres, music with singing and most music with guitars just bore the crap out of me, theres no excitement in it.

all music with real instruments sounds the same to me and you hear it everywhere, i don't listen to the radio cuz i never hear anything that sounds good to me.

im sick of what the world calls "good music" and i just plain don't understand why people like music with lyrics so much

Its the same reason we make inventions to make things simpler, the mind and body CRAVE for simple but fulfilling things, so when people start hearing this type of music unless there really devoted to another type of music, they will like the simple one.

It seems that way. It's unfortunate that it came to this level of simplicity.

you think that now, but if we DIDNT have that instinct, then there is a possibly we would have settled for our Sophisticated books and our educated Calculators (The job not the machine) and we would have never bothered to make digital entertainment at all.
