No really, what gun should I buy? Jan. 30th, 2011 @ 05:06 AM Reply

This is a serious thread by a serious person.

Taxes are coming in soon, and I need a regular hobby to get my ass out of the house. I've decided upon hunting. Seeing as there is plenty of wild country and game around here to do so. That, and I miss the taste of venison, rabbit, and squirrel. Good stuff there if cooked properly. I'm familiar with cleaning game, the bloodletting, ripping off rabbit skins as if they were socks, etc.

I've decided upon a remington 870 shotgun. Not quite sure what model would suit my needs though. I need something all purpose, as I don't plan on hunting anything in particular, those above that are mentioned, and some fowl.

As for barrel size, I'm eyeing the 12 gauge. I'm not wanting to spend more than 600 bucks.

I'm vaguely familiar with shotguns. That being that I know how to load, aim, fire, and take care of one, but I'm not quite sure about all the different configurations, barrel types, etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Here's a link of what's available.

No really. I need advice. I'm trying to kill the cute forest animals and bring them home to eat. Not leave nothing but scattered piles of gore.

And besides. RPG's are fairly inaccurate.

You'd be suprised, they are inaccurate, but the explosion kills em if the RPG doesn't.

On Topic: You should probably buy some sort of shotgun, whichever best suits you, and the type of animal you are hunting.

So, troll makes thread, gets 2 pages of rage.

I make serious thread, and I get 2 pages of trolling. Is that how it will work?

Get a rifle. A shotgun will not leave any squirrels or rabbits left to eat.

welcome to newgrounds

but shitty posts aside, I don't know anything about the fine points of hunting with guns but I do see two common-sense problems with a shotgun:

1. you can't guarantee with a shotgun that at a realistic hunting range you'll get a clean, quick kill on anything bigger than, I don't know, a giant rodent but with a fairly large, muscular deer there's no saying that you won't just tear its shit all up with soft shot, so if it flees you're just leaving it to a horrible, prolonged death and if you're entering the realm of beasts for your own benefit then it more or less goes without saying that you make a little personal pledge to be as responsible and minimally harmful as possible with their lives

2. then there is the problem with shot or penetrating slugs in that they're made of lead, not a problem if you shoot for sport but if you're going to do the responsible thing and eat your kills then that isn't too convenient; studies have shown that even if you clean the carcass really well, several portions of shot-tainted meat a week can introduce you to medically significant amounts of lead (reduced mental function, irrational/antisocial behavior, other horrible brain effects)

You should get a gun that shoots XD
But seriously, I'd go using a bow or crossbow. Their quiet, and you can re-use the arrows.

Dude, I know nothing about guns, but even I can give you a couple of advices:
1. Dont ask such question on sites like Newgrounds you'll be considered a troll or will get trolled
2. Dont buy a shotgun - you'll rip the poor animal into pieces
3. Just go to the weapon shop and ask the guy in there, they probably have consultants if you'll go to big store
4. if you dont want to do third thing then just go to their website they surely have one and all the weapons that they offer will already be sorted in different groups in there hunting included
5.if you are a troll and I wrote all this for nothing then screw you

A shotgun won't actually rip an animal to shreds. Get one.

Serious answer:

There is no perfect all purpose gun. A shotgun IS very versatile, but really the best option is to have about 3 guns all with their own job. I'd recommend a small .22lr rifle such as a Ruger 10/22 or even a small youth crickett single shot for small animals. Basically any type of shotgun will do for birds, but I'd shy away from semi's simply because of price. And finally a good largish caliber rifle for medium to large game. I personally recommend old military surplus bolt guns, mostly because themselves and their ammo are quite cheap. Some good choices are Mauser 98ks in 8mm, Mosin Nagants in 7.62x54, and the Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk II in .303 british.

Here are the average prices for all these guns.

Ruger 10/22: $200 to $300

Crickett youth rifle: $100 to $150

Mauser 98k: $250 to $400 depending on make and condition.

Mosin Nagant: $100 to $200

Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk II: $250 to $400

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't go with the shotgun due to the range on them being nothing compared to a rifle. For real hunting (like killing a deer) I would recommend any bolt-action .270 rifle. Then for the small game get a cheap .22 LR rifle.

Also, always shoot the animal in the lungs or heart. A real hunter wants the animal to be dead as soon as the bullet hits so the animal doesn't have to feel any pain.

Newgrounds is full of CoDBO playing durps.
I'd try asking /k/, they're serious business about guns.
