My question to you. Which game was the best? I thought Melee, then the original, then Brawl. Melee was just so much faster paced than the other two games. The original actually brought out the concept (bringing all of Nintendo's characters together to beat the crap outta each other), and brawl geared it toward kids who's brains exploded at the sheer quickness of the first one. Thoughts?

To me it's Melee. Melee had the best controls out of all of them and felt a lot more fast paced. Brawl offered a lot more content, but Melee was much more fun and surprising.

Melee hands down.
Of course, there's the small detail that I've never played Brawl.

I'm going against the crowd and saying Brawl. We were so used to Melee's awesomeness that we weren't used to something different.

i like the addition of tripping and stripping of the hitboxes and the various other mechanics introduced to balance out the fighting in Brawl.

I think we're more blinded by nostalgia (It's over seven years old.) than anything, which is why we prefer Melee over Brawl.

I'm putting in my vote because I still love that Solid Snake is in that one.

Brawl had the better feeling and mechanics. The fighting system was also polished far more than melees.

Both contribute to the train of thought that made the bandwagon. But it's nothing that people should be ashamed of. When I first played Melee, I was shitting bricks and played it nonstop for years after. When I first played Brawl, I was just as, if not, more so pleased than I was with Melee, even though I didn't have nearly as much time to dive in to the game. It was the intricated details like Snake's wacky character-specific codec calls that made the game better. People saw the game as slower paced and spouted "CASUAL SHIT!!!!", because that was considered an insult at the time. Also, the game was way more balanced, and that was tops with me and my competitive friends.

You're both wrong, it's spelt Melee.

Also it's Brawl, you can make your own maps, and that is pimp.

I reckon the Original was the best, melee was great but I never understood the huge hype of why it's better, I could never be stuffed unlocking everything and stuff and we all know the Gamecubes controls were kind of retarded, I fucking loved the characters and their combos and fast attacks though.

Or because Brawl is just a plain bad game? Yeah yeah more characters blah blah adventure mode blah more stages yea Final Smashes and other content. Hardly any of that matters when the gameplay mechanics are terrible. If nostalgia is why hardly anyone picks Brawl, then everyone would be picking the first SSB.

Good question. Well they each are very unique to me. SSB was one of my childhood games that I grew up with, SSBM really did the most changement from the previous SSB game more than Brawl did to Melee and Brawl has a great storyline with an excellent characters roster.

What?
And I've played them all and Melee is my personal favourite.
The first is good of course but its aged now and just doesn't play that well any more. Brawl has too many stupid characters and gimmicks, and feels pretty slow. Melee on the other hand, hasn't aged at all,
its very quick and responsive and I still sometimes play it will friends to this day.

Exactly the same order as you. Melee was easily the best or most popular. Great cast of characters with a more deep and smoother gameplay. Excellent party game overall. The first is next because like you said it started the whole concept. Playing it now, it's really not that good and I was shocked when I played it a year and two and how disappointed I was because I was so used to Melee. It's aged bad, but for the time I remembered everyone loved it. Brawl I never owned and only played it a handful of times, but I feel like while it is a good game, it's all flash and no substance. Melee was much more fun and original, Brawl felt like they were just trying to add all these gimmicky features (e.g. 3rd party characters and final smashes).

Great franchise overall though. Melee is one of my favorite games for GC.

Melee was better when it first came out.

I think a lot of us were dissapointed in the Brawl roster. 3 fucking foxes? Ganon is still a clone, Meta Knight is beyond broken and the Story was completely idiotic (Melee was bad but this was just stupid).

Brawl's conent is much higher, which makes it better yeah, but from a character point of view: it's terrible.

Smash 64 was the best. It had the best stages and all characters were viable. Perfect balance.

Huh....
My current favorite is Brawl i'd have to say, only for its online play and huge roster.
But all in all, I liked the classic N64 SSB... I used to play that alot, and its so simple and fun.
With Melee, i played that for Days, like, so much that the disk got ruined from being played so much and the case broke from being opened and close so much. And with Brawl.... Jesus motherfucking christ, brawl.... I beat that game 100%, no joke. Like, to the limit of logging in over hundreds of hours in gameplay, not idle. And i even went the the extreme of getting 99 of each stickers n trophys, all CD's, all of those blue cases with out hammers, all events, every mission beat in every difficulty... Man. Obsessed with that shit, i was. The only downside is i fucked that disk and my wii by playing it so much. My wii wont read any SSBB disk anymore lol.
In SBB I dominated with Ness and Fox
SSBM was Ness, Game & Watch, And Falco
And SSBB is Ness, Lucas, Falco, and Toon Link.
Super Smash Bros has to be my favorite videogame series ever, and nintendos best by far.

Brawl. The game is already chaotic enough that I keep forgetting where I am on screen, I don't need it to be faster.

Melee was probably the best, but I play Brawl more often.
The expanded roster, level editor, wider map selection and more polished single player made up for the fact that it wasn't as orgasmically pulled off as Melee was.
Also, Brawl had a much better soundtrack and also Solid Snake.
