4chan and its influence on our BBS 2011-01-27 07:00:47 Reply

I honestly and truly dislike 4chan...
...but it would seem that many of the users on the NG BBS have 4chan roots or influences.

I, personally, would like to see this site free of the influences of 4chan, believing the two are like oil and water... while others believe we make a good combination as a supplement to eachother.

Personally, I believe 4chan, particularly /b/, is the toilet bowl of the internet. It attracts all sorts of shit and garbage and festers. Somewhere in this fermenting shit pot that is /b/, humorous things take place, and it acts as the motivation for users to visit.

I see it as panning for gold.... you sift through a sizable amount of bullshit and sometimes find golden treasure.

I'm okay with this. If the garbage and otherwise shit of the internet wants to accumulate on 4chan, that is more than okay by me. If you don't shit in the toilet bowl... you'd be shitting somewhere else... like our BBS.

...but that's just it.
It is hard to go even a week on the NG BBS without someone accusing another of theft from some petty meme fad or otherwise joke from 4chan.

In some terrible attempt at originality, someone finds something funny from 4chan, cleans it up, and brings it here to the NG BBS. I do appreciate the humor on occasion, but not when it is riddled with users who double as /b/ users and feel the need to voice their thoughts about theft from 4chan.

I would first like to say that, You can not steal from 4chan unless you go to 4chan. Your argument falls upon deaf ears here. You should be addressing your fellow /b/ users, since they are the ones stealing material and attempting to pass it off as their own originality. This is a problem with the community on /b/ not here on the BBS.

While many users of /b/ have that wonderful immature 12-year old attitude about them, there are several individuals who do indeed have some intellect and/or originality to them. I would like to see the latter much more often than the former.

If I wanted to spend time with the 4chan community, I would visit 4chan. I come here, hoping to find an altogether separate class of individuals... known as the Newgrounds community. We should be individuals here.

In closing, if this was all TL;DR...
I want to know just how much of our community here doubles as a /b/tard on 4chan. (Do you also visit 4chan?)
If so, how do you feel when you see someone posting things from 4chan in an attempt to be original?
If not, are you upset when you find 4chan material being used/discussed here on the NG BBS?

and finally...
Where do you stand on users maintaining 4chan ideals attitudes when visiting the NG BBS?
Do these personas belong here... or are they unwelcome?

I'm still don't even know what 4chan really is. I was told about it some months ago so I tried going on there but I apparently was permanently banned for something called "CP". The banishment apparently occurred 3 years ago when I didn't have an internet connection or the same computer.

So I couldn't care less for such a site, it just bans people for no valid reason.

I find the jokes and memes to be annoying, but tolerable. Can anyone really say herp derp without feeling like a fuck head?

I think the term OP, however, is very helpful when I'm posting throughout the day.

So, overall, the twelve year old bed wetters on this site trying to be internet badasses are the worst thing about the site, but at the same time, have contributed to making this site what it is today. I'd salute them if it weren't for the fact that they'd be too busy fapping to return the salute.

fap is another good 4chan word.

I don't care for 4chan. I've only been there a few times to see what it actually is. And never mentioned it on the bbs except maybe asking what it is.
I agree that 4chan and newgrounds should be completely seperate things. As for your questions.. I don't remember what they were.

Very likely someone with a similar IP to yours posted child porn.

Also, no matter what happens, I will never consider this character to be at all linked to 4chan:

I never visited 4chan. That's excluding the times, when somebody sent me a link to stuff there

But overall, I never visited the forums. I had an encounter with the 4chan fellows once, when some butt-hurt bitch posted a link to our chatroom, requesting to spam it

But yeah, NEWGROUNDS IS BETTER

The funny stuff from 4chan is ok. I don't mind memes that are actually good spreading here.

I have no issues with what sites NG users visit when not on here, that is not my business to know and/or care.

What I don't want to see is the BBS becoming a second /b/ or become even worse then /b/. Leave that crap where it belongs.

For the short time I have had a account here, I as well have noticed the utter crap 4chan has laid upon our virgin chests.

Anyone that dislikes 4chan and all it's done you get a beer, everyone who doesn't care stands in the corner of a circular room. And everyone that likes 4chan, line up against the wall please.

Basically the majority of the people here who hate 4Chan in reality hate /b/, while in reality a majority of those majority have never even been to 4Chan, while the majority of that minority who have been there have only been to /b/ and caught it on a bad way.

There's a lot of childporn on there so I don't understand why someone who's not a pedofile would visit such site.

Never been on 4chan, but hearing what it's got to offer, I'd not visit. As for influence, I don't recognize new memes for awhile so they just blend into other useless posts.

Honestly Rob I see what you're saying but the problem isn't so much '4chan and it's influence on our BBS' but more '4chan and it's influence on our internet'. That's really the scope of the problem now. I mean, it takes one view of some comments on a semi popular youtube video and you can be sure to find one 'meme' at least. Every few months there is another news article about something anon has done. It's hard to escape that kind of pull.

As for myself I rarely browse 4chan and when I do I might not even use /b/ at all which obviously is the cesspool of the site, but I can see why a lot of our users like it and continue to browse there too. It's like an internet supersite now. People go there just to keep up with 'what's in'. Sure I would like less mention of their memes and stories on this site, but unless the mods suddenly become super badasses about that then it's just not going to happen I'm afraid.

I think Gagsy pretty much just summed up the problem in one neat package.

I've already said I don't mind the funnier side of /b/'s influence, but hey it's not everyone's cup of tea.

This, however, is pretty much /thread.

I hate most of the stuff they do, but sometimes they do manage to make me laugh my ass off. If they did more stuff like Jessie Slaughter I would consider going to that site once in a while.

Ehhhh, it's not all about the "attacks" and shit, man. It's just a community bulletin board, like our beloved NGBBS.

The BBS will continue to look and feel like 4chan's /b/ as long as the majority of BBS posters continue to be teenage boys who laugh at stuff on /b/

If there weren't so many posters in middle-school, this thread wouldn't exist

for fucks sake, why do so many of you people hate 4chan?

HALF OF YOU THAT SAY YOU HATE IT HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN THERE.

I mean, seriously, when did 4chan become the cool thing to hate? None of you are too mature for 4chan, don't even try to tell me otherwise.

The NGBBS would be completely fucking dull if it did'nt take half of its jokes from /b/.
